Do symptoms come and go?

Really early days for me (5 weeks) but I have some symptoms but not all the time and not every day. Yesterday I had metallic taste. Day before I felt nauseous when I woke up but didn't yesterday or today. Every day or so I get a boob twinge. And when I got up today I got a twinge in my lower tummy. But nothing consistent - is that normal? (Can you tell this is my first and I am worried?)

Hi Yellowflowers, I'm at the same stage as you - 5 weeks, first time... My symptoms come and go too, and being my first time I'm really aware of them. I've just seen a nurse for my first appointment this morning and she was most reassuring, it's all normal The only thing to look out for is a one-sided pain in your abdomen, which you should get checked out.

I guess things will continue to change throughout pregnancy, and then some...!

I'm pregnant with my first so I'm not massively qualified to answer but the only thing I can say for certain is that everyone reacts to pregnancy differently. I was freaking out in early pregnancy, worrying that I didn't have this symptom or that symptom, but I eventually came to this conclusion and it took a weight off my mind.
The other thing I would say that in v. early pregnancy (especially if it's your first) you're likely to be analysing every last twinge... Which is perfectly natural! Of course, if you get really worried or things change dramatically, phone your doctor... Otherwise, I would say you're having a perfectly normal, perfectly unique, first pregnancy. Good luck!

I'm on my second so you'd think I had a clue, but I'm finding it hard to remember what it was like at this stage. Woke up last night and thought hmm my boobs don't hurt anymore but then they did in the shower this morning. I've only had a few episodes of nausea and some twinges on and off which I remember from DD1.

I did do another test this morning just for reassurance and the line came up straight away and was darker so that's given me some reassurance. I'm going to try and chill and not dwell on it now and enjoy the time before sickness sets in properly - with DD it was at about 6 1/2 weeks.

The one symptom which hasn't gone away is the complete exhaustion. It took me about 45 minutes to do a 20 minute walk to the shop pushing DD this morning.

Easier said than done but I would try not to worry too much, I think lots of people don't have any symptoms at all at this stage or ones that come and go. It does all feel really fragile this early on though doesn't it?

Thanks all. I am a little freaked out by my doc who wants me to have early scan at seven weeks because miscarriage more likely in women who are overweight with pcos like me. On the other hand, reassurance at seven weeks will begreat and if it is bad news then better to find out at seven weeks than twelve. But I think I may do one more text tonight just to make sure.

Hi Yellowflowers. Congrats on your BFP! I completely understand the need to keep doing tests. I must have done about ten in the first few weeks. I only stopped after the digital said 3+, when I felt I had monitored as much as was possible by peeing on sticks. It was helpful to me though.

I must say that I also had just on and off twinges and the odd wave of nausea until after 6 weeks, when the nausea got a bit more frequent and the boobs got quite sore. But even those symptoms do come and go. As other posters have said, fatigue seems still to be the most reliable symptom.

It is of course important to try and not worry too much and analyse everything - I am not very good at it though! Still, at this stage, there is nothing you can do, except try and eat healthily, rest and get through the days! I am not sure the moment ever comes when you can fully relax - but I guess after the 12 week scan it gets easier.

Good luck with your scan in two weeks!
