In my first pregnancy I had them at 20 weeks and they were quite strong. I phoned the delivery suite as I was so worried but they said it was normal.

I'm pregnant again and this time I first felt them at 26 weeks. When I went for my 12 week scan the sonographer said that I was having very strong braxton hicks and she was surprised I couldn't feel them.

yup!especially if it's your 2nd or 3rd..like me. i was worried but am lucky enough to have a friend who's a g.p..and i can pick her brain about any worries.she is also on her 3rd and had early braxton hix.however,i would say if you're at all concerned i would give your midwife a bell.

i was having tummy aches about 4 months in and rang mdwf, she told me to take paracetamol and lie down, and if they hadn't gone after an hour or two, to go to the labour ward.

i did this and they checked me over, and a doc assured me it was muscular and baby was fine.

nice to have the assurance.

i've only 2 weeks left of my prgnancy, hope all is well for ther remainder of yours

aw thank you mother - this is my first but it feels quite muscular...just dont want to go bothering midwives, i dont like making a fuss. do u think its still normal to have them this early on ur first? as its my first i really dont know what to expect especially when something new happens!!xx

I had them at 20 weeks with my first. I wouldn't worry!

whittywan · 12/04/2010 11:24

I had them from 20weeks. Never painful or regular but really quite strong and frequent. I went to my day assessment unit twice just to have them checked out.

Both times the midwives and doctors were great. Really thorough and reassuring and never made me feel silly for being worried.

My advice is definitely to have them checked out if you feel uncomfortable about them. It does no harm and puts your mind at ease.

gemcgem · 12/04/2010 11:45

yep i get them all the time ! this is my 6th an iv been the same with all the others right from about 15 weeks . my midwife told me there a good thing! but if they get really pain full to contact some on.

I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and I'm pretty sure I've been having them occasionally for a week or so. Didn't have them at all with my first and don't even have a bump yet but feel definate tightenings in the lower part of my tummy. Haven't been worried so haven't felt the need to get checked out but maybe I should bring it up at my next appointment just to check!

Sarahlou8 · 12/04/2010 14:17

I did!

By 15 weeks I could feel tightenings, where I could feel the whole outline of my womb.
At my 20 week scan I had one everytime the sonographer tried to come near me with her probe...

In the last few weeks before I was due I couldn't walk through them and would be stooped up like an old lady!

I knew they werent contractions, they were painless, just very uncomfortable - and yet I have friends who never had a single one.

I'm 12 weeks now with my third but haven't felt them yet, we'll see.

Yup! 24 weeks myself and find that esp after sex (sorry for TMI) they are particularly bad. My whole stomach goes rigid and stays like that for some time, that can happen once or I can have 4 or 5 in a row. This is dc3.
