Think I have SPD - have I left it too late?

Okay, so I'm 26 weeks and this is my second pregnancy. last time I didn't really have any joint pain (lucky me), except during labour, which I put down to being hypermobile (which I was told I am when I was 12) and unable to move because of an epidural.

So thi time around, I've been reading the baby book (that bounty one) week by week as I go as a sort of refresher course, and to remind myself of what the baby's up to. I'd been having a lot of pain around my hips and in my groin, which is pretty unbearable when I roll over at night etc. The other day i was bored so flicked a week or two ahead, and at week 27 it mentions SPD. So I'm ticking off boxes in my head as it says to see your GP or midwife for a referral for treatment, and now I'm just worried that I've left this far too long - I've had this pain since about... I don't know, weeks and weeks now.

I know it's not too late in the sense that doing something now will still help, but have I made this worse for myself by not doing something before now?

I guess I'm also a trifle annoyed that when I mentioned I was getting some pain in my groinal muscles my midwife didn't pick up on it and mention SPD, but then I guess I did go along to the appointments saying 'nothing more than to be expected I guess', so she probably didn't realise just how agonising it was. I just wish they'd mentioned it earlier in the book...

It shouldn't be too late - see your GP and you should be referred to a physio who deals with obstetric cases. The physoion has made a big difference to my SPD this time around (4th) and I am still totally mobile at 38 weeks. I was practically paralysed last time.

Not too late at all. It will probably get progressively worse (sorry !) as your bump gets bigger, so best get referred a.s.a.p

I had horrible SPD/Sacro-iliac pain in my last pg from 28 weeks. TBH I personally didn't find the physio appt terribly useful or enlightening - but generally working on your core muscles and upping the pelvic floors may help. They will probably offer you tubigrip or a support belt too.

What did really help me was going to a chiropractor - a few quick adjustments kept me going for weeks.

So sorry to hijack but just wanted to wave at Tilly and make sure she is Ok...was checking other thread

Tott, I know SPD is horrible but there are a lot of things that can be done - special support things, etc, ways of moving, physio. It's not a lost cause.

just make sure you ask for all the help you can get. Hope you can sort it out very soon x
