Reccommendations for new PJs for hospital?

Going to treat myself to some new PJs for my hospital stay = elcs, so will be there at least 3 nights ..........
can anyone recommend some good cotton pjs, that are nice and comfy with a "big" top half (i.e. long enough to cover bottom) and not too expensive ........

Thank you! xx

Check out cyberjammies.co.uk......

You may want to think about buying a nightie instead of jammies. You will be catheterised during the c-section and probably won't have it removed for 24 hours. I only took in jammies and had the indignity of just wearing the top and paper pants until DH brought in a nightie. (and I was on the ward not a private room!)

DomesticG0ddess · 08/04/2010 20:31

Don't know any specific ones as I am newly pg, but make sure they are BLACK. My Blooming Marvellous pink ones were ruined within minutes last time!

reikizen · 08/04/2010 20:34

Definately nightie instead of pj's as you will have a catheter initially and the mw will need to check your blood loss. Also, have you thought how you will get into pj's when you have absolutely no sensation in your legs!!
Save the pjs for day 2 or 3 as your post section wear will get covered in blood/baby poo/sick etc.

LadyBiscuit · 08/04/2010 20:34

You most definitely do not want PJs after a CS. You will have a big dressing on your tummy and a catheter. And be sporting DVT stockings. You need a nightie. A long baggy one - buy a size 20 if you're a 14. Go to Primark and buy something cheap. It will get blood and breast milk and stuff on it and you will never want to see it again.

mazzystartled · 08/04/2010 20:38

you need a nightie or 4, but nothing fancy.

you might manage pjs by day 3 or 4 but you'll hopefully be on your way home by then

if you want a treat get a nice dressing gown instead

GladioliBuckets · 08/04/2010 20:43

Ah but once your catheter is out, PJs are good for holding giant pads in place.

Ideally you should be up and walking, catheter out within 12hours of a CSection - you will recover much better (something to do with gravity and bloodflow.) Keep asking if nobody is suggesting it.

mazzystartled · 08/04/2010 20:47

agree re mobilisation

but finding pjs which won't interfere with scar is also v tricky. you need to look for very high waisted ones, with a soft edge - maybe that lacy stuff edging jersey, rather than cotton weave with elasticated waist or drawstring.

clare8888 · 08/04/2010 20:50

I've got myself a couple of long nighties for my hospital bag from Primark - nice and long, front buttons for BF access and only £3.50 each (so I won't care if they get all goo'd up and go straight in the bin!)

GladioliBuckets · 08/04/2010 20:52

Never had a problem with that. Scar is below bikini line, let alone waist line. An drawstring waistband is good though as you can wear them with a bump or without and you don't know how big your waist will be immediately after birth.

Make sure you have a several! More than you think you need. I went out and bought 3 lovely new PJs / nighties for hospital. By the time the family turned up with cameras my lovely new PJs were trashed.

So, in the photos of newborn DS - the ones to keep for posterity - I'm wearing my emergency nightie - a bloody horrible blancmange pink thing that says "under this I'm naked"

katgod · 08/04/2010 21:26

For DS had Mothercare "breastfeeding" nightie ones with buttons to half way down. Boobs so massive they did not fit through the opening. Midwife advised taking it off so was sat breastfeeding naked. For DD knew better and had John Lewis nightshirts that button all the way down, like wee willie winkie has in kids story books. Much better.

UnrequitedSkink · 08/04/2010 21:30

Would recommend cotton shorts pajamas as the postnatal wards are kept stiflingly hot IIRC. I got some from Peacocks and they were brilliant - just wish I could remember what I've done with the bloody things.

MintChocAddict · 08/04/2010 23:43

Marks and Spencer Limited Collection. Couple of different design of jammies for £15. So comfy and soft with a big generous t-shirt and 3/4 length trousers (ideal for roasting hot hospital wards).
I'm currently in mine and bought them a size up for growing into over the next few months. Planning on getting another lot nearer the time.

You need the lightest nightie you can find, it'll be boiling hot, I wasn't even able to wear a nursing bra cause of heat, get something cotton, bringing in a little hand fan helps. Good luck

Madigan · 09/04/2010 08:35

Thank you one and all -

yes, definitely agree re nightie for day 1, and maybe day 2 - should be in PJs for day 3 I hope ....... will check out all suggestions

thank you!

I got my husband to pick me up (can't get out at the moment!) a couple of nigties from Peacocks. I don't usually go in there, but wanted half button front and nowhere else seemed to have them for a sensible price. They have short sleeves like t shirts and were £4 each. Bit thin, bit not see through and will be fine.

Also, try the supermarkets for slippers/dressing gowns/PJ's. Not sure about long tops but I have some fab PJ's from Tesco and the softest dressing gown ever from Sainsbury's. All extremely cheap too.

GladioliBuckets · 09/04/2010 09:06

I also had a few stretchy vest tops which were handy for BFing and mix&matching with PJ bottoms/long skirts. Pretty much wore them for 3weeks solid til my nipples settled down.

sonsmum · 09/04/2010 11:33

not meaning to be negative but don't buy anything nice to go into hospital.....you will bleed fairly heavily after the birth and there is likely to be leakage.......the idea of a cheap nightie with buttons down front to allow breastfeeding wins my vote....

Bathbaby · 09/04/2010 11:42

I would keep the glamerous PJs for visiting times/photo ops, and stick to nighties with buttons at the front for in between (mainly for breastfeeding really). I would also stick to dark colours as I had an embaressing flooding incident during visiting hours wearing pink PJs!
My Mum tells this awful story that when she had visitors she needed to go to the loo, got up and a huge clot splatted on the floor!
Second time I opted for jersey lounge type pants, and vest tops when I was at home, so that I could be as comfy as you are in PJs but look like you have gotten up that day!
Good luck!
