Anyone Else Been Pregnant Since the Dawn of Time?

God, I'm fed up... and I'm only 38 weeks!! But, as that means I've been pregnant since July 15th last year, I think that officially qualifies as an age and a day... And, yes, I know it's going to be much, much harder once the baby gets here (already have DS1, nearly 3) but I just want to have one day of pregnancy reprieve to be able to:

Sleep on my stomach
Sleep the whole night through without peeing one million times/waking up in a mad panic about what I'm about to do and how our lives will change, etc
Drink SEVERAL glasses of chilled white wine
Have sex that doesn't involve me saying 'wait a minute, I'm just turning over'

Seriously, I don't want the baby to get here before EDD as my mum isn't arriving (flying in to the States) until April 20th, two days before I'm officially due. Currently, however, family are all having a whale of a time iin the British Virgin Islands, leaving me (drunk?) messages saying things like: 'We're all on the beach having a cocktail now, just thinking of where we're going for supper'. I'm so happy for them (not)....

Anyone else officially done being pregnant?!

Ah most of these "natural" induction methods are things I enjoy anyway. I've enjoyed eating curry throughout pregnancy and i know it will not "make" my baby come along at least until he is ready. And as for walking and sex, they are about the only forms of exercise I get at the moment

It is interesting how there are many forums on how to "evict" babies so to speak, but I haven't seen anything on how to keep them in. I wonder if anything actually works ...

Ah yes lots of pepole tell me that first babies are normally late, i think the actually statistic in UK is 25% come before due date ? But this is just something I have read somewhere I cannot even particularly remember where. But if it is a 1 in 4 chance isn't so bad

Something like 85-95% of babies arrive within two weeks of the due date - so, from the start of week 39 to the end of week 41.

Having said that, at 38 plus 4 I have been getting messages from people asking 'if I have had the baby yet' (like I wouldn't have told them!) so am thinking of putting a message on the machine with the day's date, saying something like:

'You have reached the home of 14 hours, her DH and her son. Her daughter has not yet arrived, as of X date - we will let you know when the Blessed Event has occurred, and we thank you for your interest!'

How are you feeling, GJ91? MNWL, how about you?

I am feeling fine thanks - just getting loads of BH that are driving me a bit mad... just been to a nice farm place with DH, DD and DS and went swimming this morning... but as got my first stretchmark.

of now to do some stuff in nursery like wash the babygros and cover of crib mattress, and to reassemble buggy after taking cover off to wash it.

if anyone asks if he's here yet, i just say, he's not due yet and he'd better not come before my parents arrive.

Oh yes know the feeling like panicmode this is my fourth (well fifth if you count a mc) pregnancy in 6 years. Apart from 2 months I have been pregnant or breastfeeding since Nov 2003!

36+4 now with no4, 3 of 5 and under and severe SPD, I am as miserable as sin and counting down the days then the maternity clothes are getting burnt and DP marched to the clinic!

PanicMode · 11/04/2010 18:39

LOL sweetkitty - we sound very similar - except I marched DH to the clinic as soon as I found out!

Just had a lovely morning off to a huge museum in San Francisco with DH and DS. Really enjoyed myself (hope the others did, too [simle]) Trying to plan some nice things that will be, um, challenging in the first few weeks/months postpartum that DS and I can enjoy together. Tomorrow, we are off to the SF Aquarium! MNWL - sounds like we are on the same page, distracting-ourselves-wise!

(I have to say, as much as I am 'over' pregnancy, I've actually found it much easier this time round with DS to distract me from my own madness/obsessive nature! It's been more tiring, certainly, but easier psychologically - feel we're not allowed to say that about second/subsequent pregnancies, but it really has been easier...

I'm also looking forward to labour and delivery - am I really mad?!)

PanicMode and sweetkitty what can I say apart from phrase from my adolescence - serious respect, man!

I am also really looking forward to the birth! because this is DC3 haven't done any courses like NCT but have bought lots of books esp ones that are a little happy clappy like Ina May Gaskin's spirtual midwifery and now am really looking forward to birth. Am going to lovely MLU (NHS) that looks like a spa but is inside big teaching hospital, and they are giving me free weekly acupuncture (!).

DS's birth 4 years ago was perfect in everyway (2 hours from arrival at hospital, pain v v manageable, waterbirth and no tears, and quick discharge from hospital) so hope its the same again.

Suddenly having panic as really do need to do some spring cleaning type stuff and some cooking so I need my week after work finishes so really really hope he's not early.

14hourstillbedtime · 11/04/2010 21:34

Oooh, I love Ina May Also, cos live in Berkeley, surrounded by hippy-dippy types and very much hoping that I can join them and go unmedicated this time (DS birth induced, had epidural, but was still lovely experience and only 11 hours from very first twinge to out.)

Free acupuncture, MNWL? Must consider moving back to country with socialized medicine....

Can I relate to this thread! Am due the 19th so just over a week to go. I have tried a clary sage massage and sex but no joy so am just waiting.....

MumNWLondon · 11/04/2010 21:58

yup free weekly acupuncture from 38 weeks until you give birth (whittington hospital in north london) plus if you are in labour mon-fri 9-5 they'd come down to birth centre/labour ward and do acupuncture as pain relief.

i asked why on earth they were offering this on the NHS and was told that it cuts rates of inducing, plus shortens labour both of which save the hospital money .

14hourstillbedtime · 12/04/2010 22:21

Bullfinch welcome to the thread! Come and play the waiting game with us... winner gets a free baby

Was very, very excited/nervous as have had crampy (period-pain-like feeling on/off all weekend) and some extremely mild contractions yesterday evening, but all tailored off to nought, so been spending the day as planned at the SF Aquarium. Very much hoping the baby can hang on in there as MUST wait until my mum arrives on the 20th, but as explained to poor DH yesterday (real deer-in-the-headlights look as he thought This Was It) that we will be FINE if the baby comes now, very dear friend will take DS, all will be well...

Now, who was I trying to convince with that speech?!
