Movement less vigorous: cause for concern?

Hi All,

I'm 25 weeks and have noticed in the last few days that while I'm definitely feeling movement from my baby, it's less vigorous than before. This is my first so I really have nothing to compare it to! Should I speak to my midwife?

Any advice gratefully received. I don't want to waste anyone's time if this is anything close to normal...

Its always worth mentioning it to the midwife. It may that the baby is in a position where he doesn't have much room to move but worth checking out anyway.

Hiya, I'm 25 weeks with my first too! I find that LO has days of manic activity where I'm being booted and clawed at constantly, then a few quieter days where there's just the occasional squirm and nudge.

As long as you're still getting semi-regular movements at least every few hours, then it probably isn't anything to be too worried about, though definitely worth keeping an eye on. The other thing is to try drinking a long cold drink, giving your tummy a gentle shake/prod or otherwise inciting LO to wake up and move more.

However never be worried about contacting your midwife if you're concerned. That's what they're there for, after all! Or at least mention it in your next appointment. If you're UK based and on the same NHS schedule as me then you should have one coming up in the next week..?

I had issues with lack of movement with dd1 and was told to put a sticker on a chart every time she moved, as long as there were 10 stickers in 24 hours then they were happy

Thanks ladies. Spoke to a midwife earlier today who said pretty much exactly the same thing as you hevster - I did a kick count and had 14 movements in 3 hours so I think I may have been slightly over-anxious!

I think it's mostly a fear of the unknown... having never done this before, coupled with the fact that I can't actually see what's going on in there. The midwife told me to phone back should the movements continue to decrease but otherwise, I'm breathing a general sigh of relief
