Morning all, Am 13+4 and have been suffering on and off with MS since I was 3 weeks!!! However have always either just had nausea or been sick later on in the day!!! However this morning after taking my thyroxine at 7.30ish at about 7.55 I started being sick to the extent that I only finished when the bile came up (Sorry TMI) but does anyone happen to know how long the body needs to take in the thyroxine or how much if any was likely to get into my system????

Thanks Guys.... In the mean time, am sat at work at my desk feeling awful and very sorry for myself! Thought I was getting over MS!!!

sorry you are feeling so crap

ms is vile isnt it? i am just getting over a winter vomiting bug and it remimded me how awful it was, and how i just wanted to hit the cheerful people who tell you not to worry as it will go in a few months

if it were me i would just take another thyroxine, if you started being sick just 25 mins later. but i am not a doctor, just a mum with thyroid disease

have you had your dose put up during your pg? its important for you and your baby that your levels don't drop

are they monitoring you more frequently too?

babybunting2010 · 08/04/2010 09:01

Yeah had my levels increased from 50 to 75 and being tested every 6 weeks, plus have been sent to a specialist gyn who deals with diabetics and thyroid pregnancies.

Did you ever throw up your thyroxine??? What did you do??? x

hello there i was diagnosed with under active thyroid about 20 years ago when i was 8. i am on 150 daily. i am now 11 weeks pregnant with my second child. with my ds i felt constantly sick solid for 10 weeks and about 8 weeks this time. i was never actually sick. during pregnancy with ds i had thyroid check ups at hospital every 6 weeks too as too much or too little thyroxine can be very dangerous to baby.
the specialist said there was no link at all between thyroxine and sickness. this could just be a coincidence for you. how long have you been taking thyroxine? some people are sick during pregnancy some for a reason some not. you should get checked out, but i dont see any benifits in stop taking it as it could cause other problems for baby. just go see your gp maybe your body isnt to fond of having ms thyroid and pregnancy, good luck to you and keep us updated

I felt more sick in my pregnancy where my thyroid levels not properly under control although might not be connected ie that was my only girl pregnancy.

If you were sick within 20 mins of taking it, unlikely it got into your system. I was never actually sick so this issue didn't arise.

If it was me I'd take another one (esp if only 25 mins, you were very sick) or maybe an extra half dose instead but I am not a doctor - and if it happened more than once I would want to discuss with endocrinologist what to do.

babybunting - sounds like they are looking after you well

i just took my thyroxine and folic acid/vit tablets at night as i felt better in the evenings

babybunting2010 · 08/04/2010 11:37

It hasn't been a problem before and I know that the MS isn't affected by my thyroxine, it was more a case that I had got rid of it this morning. Have only been sick one other time which was the middle of the day. Think I was really over tired this morning thus the early morning session talking to God on the big white telephone!

Thanks for all the messages though, spoke with the DR this morning and have been advised not to take more as having too much thyroxine in my system is more dangerous than not having enough. She said that unless I could be sure that both pills had left my system I would be better to just leave it.

Have been on thyroxine for about 6 months now and haven't really noticed any difference, levels keep being increased at the moment though but am out of the danger zone with T4 etc....

im sure it will work out ok for you babybunting. took over a year for my levels to be ok but they will keep a strict eye on you being pregnant

MumNWLondon · 08/04/2010 12:02

Just a warning though about taking vits in the evening with thyroxine - shouldn't take iron tablets (in some vits) at same time as thyroxine as the iron can affect the thyroxine. Thyroxine ideally should ideally be taken on empty stomach.

KristinaM · 08/04/2010 18:36

thnaks mum in NWL, i didnt know that about the iron tablets. i have never needed them so far but its good to know just in case

how are you feeling today, baby bunting?

babybunting2010 · 09/04/2010 09:02

Not too bad. Sat at desk drinking peppermint tea! Thyroxine shouldn't be taken with vitamins if they contain calcium as it almost totally stops the thyroxine from working. I worked it out after my levels went a bit crazy and the Docrtor kind of said a bit blazee that yeah it probably would affect it and that I should ask my pharmacist! Welcome to the NHS hey!

Have managed to take thyroxine this morning and it's staying down so fingers crossed.

ahh..fond memories of peppermint tea

you'd think it would occur to them that a pg woman might be taking pre natal vits. its not a TOTALLY weird thing to do............

underactivethyroidmum · 09/04/2010 20:48

Hi babybunting

I have an underactive thyroid and take thyroxine and had a problem with terrible morning sickness - often resulting in me throwing up my tablet whole

My consultant advised me to take my thyroxine before I went to bed to avoid a drop in my thyroxine levels and it did seem to work - my levels were stable throughout my pregnancy and my DS is a healthy thriving 6 week old bundle of joy
