DH is convinced that I can't have a local for this, and I have no idea. Does anyone know whether a local would be harmful to the baby?

For some knee replacements these days they use local anaesthesia such as a spinal. So you may not need a full GA. Ask your doctor!

speak to your doctor - they will weigh up the risks of waiting until after you have the baby vs the risk of the local etc.

I had my foot xrayed at 28 weeks, they weighed up the risks and decided better to have xray.

It depends on the op, you need to discuss it with the anaesthetist. The pros and cons are different depending on the priorities. I had an op on my knee two years ago, my youngest was still very much breastfed so I was put at the start of the list and had a quick general (I was in and out of theatre in 22 minutes!!) to reduce the amount of time I had to fast and so I could be fully recovered from the anaesthetic and go home. A local would have been nice (I wanted to watch the op!!) but would have meant a spinal which may not have been so quick from a recovery/going home point of view. Either way, talk to your Dr and they will sort it all out for you.
