Headaches in early pregnancy?

Hello,

Yesterday evening, a really, really bad headache came on over the course of the evening. I went to bed, and finally managed to get to sleep at about 4am (am jetlagged too, which isn't helping!)

It went on all of today until I started to feel very woosy and dizzy this afternoon. AF was due tomorrow, so I POAS and it was a BFP!

I'm absolutely delighted, but this headache is just awful. Is this just one of those pregnancy things? I'm sitting here at 4am again and in so much pain.

Weirdly, after symptom spotting like mad for the last couple of months and convincing myself I was pg, as of now, I have none of the usual symptoms, just this horrible headache.

Is it just me, or has anyone else had this? Is there anything I can do?

Thanks!

I got really bad headaches early on, too. You can take paracetamol, but not ibuprofen. I found the paracetamol did just take the edge off.

They happened on and off for the first 14 weeks - sorry!

congratulations

Hi there,

I'm 8 weeks pregnant (my first pregnancy) and my very first symptom was the headache too and I still get it everyday. At first I was under alot of stress at work so I thought it was stress related headache at first but now I know its definetely related to my morning sickness...

I get really bad headache first thing in the morning till mid day. I don't like taking medicines so I try and let it pass by sleeping or forcing myself to eat something. Which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
I've tried peppermint tea, ginger tea, chewing gum...but none really worked for me

Its either banging headache or nausea everyday and I can't really do much...

My hubby thinks this headache maybe related to lack of vitamins or calcium or something as my diet just now is not very balanced diet??

Aichi, I don't think its diet related. I have a fab healthy diet, and I have had a perm headache for weeks and week now (I am 10 wks). So don't beat yourself up about that, just try and eat a bit better now you know there is another person to consider!

FourofFour, make sure you are getting plenty of fluids and rest (ha! easier said than done eh?!). If it gets really bad, and you are taking paracetamol all the time, go see the Doc.

Here's hoping we all feel better soon!

I get headaches throughout pregnancy, worse in early pregnancy, because of hormone surges.

It is best to take the recommended dose of paracetemol, (2 every 4 hours up to 4 times a day) - I find if I do this straight away, the headache is under control, otherwise it can go on for days.

Keep well hydrated, get plenty of fresh air - having a stuffed up nose often happens in pregnancy, and doesn't help with headaches, and eat regularly.

Also, this might just be a personal thing, but I find I am hypersenstive to stuff like air fresheners, washing powder smells, cleaning stuff etc when pregnant, and they make me really headachey, so try to avoid anything like this, and stick to unperfumed, natural stuff.

(COngratulations BTW!)

Was my first pregnancy symptom first time - will pass soon. In the meantime, drink lots of fluids (I found being even slightly dehydrated made it worse) and I think you can take paracetemol but not much else for it. Congrats.

Don't be afraid of using paracetamol - they really would not be happy for pregnant women to use it if they weren't sure it was okay (I work in pharmaceuticals industry and know how anal they are about testing in pregnancy etc.)

I suffer more than normal with headaches in pregnancy - have one now. I find lots of fluids and fresh air (either outside of by opening the windows - and especially when in bed at night) helps, as does lots of sleep.

Thanks so much for your replies Ladies, I'm sorry to hear that this seems to be a common problem, but also reassured that I can use paracetamol if necessary.

I finally got to sleep at about 5 this morning and have only just woken up (my lovely, lovely DH had a shower in the family bathroom so he didn't wake me up ) I seem to be feeling a bit brighter, but yesterday's pain did get a lot worse in the evening and when I attempted to go to sleep.

Oh well, even if I get it all the way through pregnancy, I'm trying to look at it from the angle that its only 9 months out of my life and I'm just so excited to have a bean on board!

I hope we all feel better soon, and thanks so much for the reassurance...
