Nuchal measurement too big at 12 weeks

I'm reeling a bit from my scan today. Nuchal measurement was 3.2. Over 2 is not good apparently. Am gutted and confused and can't stop crying. Think it's just shock- was expecting either no baby or twins or something, not this.

With it being bank holiday tomorrow and Monday they can't do the nuchal translucency test until next week, same problem with all the private clinics locally. Unfortunately, we go away for a week on Tuesday for a family holiday (the entire family for GGP's wedding anniversary, would cancel if it was just us) and as they've changed my dates, I will be 14 weeks when I return which is too late to do the test.

The lovely sister talked me through everything but I still feel a bit confused. I'm not sure if we should even bother with the test because I don't want CVS or amnio, would be too scared of miscarrying. Might have a late amnio, oh I don't know.

Anyone else been through this? What did you do? And, anyone had a this and then baby been ok?

fifitot - Yes sorry it is the same h=just checked my notes. Have you been booked for extra scans ? Seriously I sailed through no 3 and presumed/hoped I would with this one. Ive been booked for extra scan at 28, 32 and 36 weeks seems a lot but would rather be monitored too much than not enough. Also they did say I had redued fluid as the Amnion (?) had collapsed in. Ive dug out the notes and it says the extra scans are beacuse of the Single umbilical artery.

They are giving me a growth scan at 28 wks - haven't said yet if I need more. I actually don't enjoy scans tbh as they make me anxious but like you I suppose better they check than not.

TBH they really seemed unconcerned about the 2 vessel cord. A sonographer I know told me that their new guidelines are not to even bother reporting it but clearly they aren't following this in our cases!

Suppose they are just keeping an eye on things.

Hello LowLevelWhingeing! I'm really absolutely fine now. I think that there probably isn't anything to worry about, and if there is we'll manage fine. I was just freaking out- I do tend to panic first and think later! Looking forward to the holiday now.

The hospital were great, by the way. The sister did explain that there might be nothing to worry about, I just didn't hear her! DH told me later about it. They did my whole booking appt in a private room so I wouldn't have to go into the waiting room, they were really v good.

eidsvold, thank you. I think it was the potential heart related issues that had me so worried. Unlike yourselves, DH and I have no idea what it is like to live with ds and I immediately assumed it always meant a host of health issues. Great to hear that's no always the case. We also decided against having an amnio just yet because I would be too scared about miscarrying. We may consider it later in the pregnancy but maybe by then I'll be happy to wait and see, who knows. Glad to hear your DD is thriving anyway.

Thanks everyone, you are all lovely

When I had the combined test the nuchal measurement was 3.2 & I had a raised risks with my bloods. I had also had a previous pregnancy when my DS1 was identified as having a serious fetal abnormality, incompatible with life. Overall with my previous history we were given odds of 1 out 5 that our baby had a serious issue. Due to the these odds we decided to have a CVS. The good news was we got the all clear so it just goes to show the odds are definitly more likely that everything will be fine.
