Pain at the top of my bump!

I wondered if anyone has had anything similar. I have a severe pain at the top of my bump which seems to only be relieved when i sit. I can walk for about 5 mins before needing to sit and it wakes me up in the night. It is in the middle right at the top of my bump just below my boobs and the area is numb. Had a full check last week where they reckon it might be muscular and wont tell me how to get rid of it apart from pain killers. It has been two weeks and i am not sure i can cope for the 13 weeks i have left!

I too keep being checked for pre-eclampsia, but thanks again for the heads up Ttfgt.

Sometimes, stretching up high can help but overall I would say nothing really helps

Rubbing it can aggrevate it. Sometimes when it is really hot, putting something cold on it takes the heat out of it and can lessen the pain.

I had this with DS1 in the third trimester and at times it was excruciating, so completely sympathise. I too was told it was rib pain where the uterus was expanding upwards. The only effective way I could alleviate it was, as others have said, putting my hand up in the air to relieve the pressure (and then my arm would ache/i'd get pins and needles after a while!) or lying stretched out on the sofa (much better personally). When I had to sit up for extended periods I found a hot water bottle on the area a help.
It's started to come back in the past few weeks in this, my second pregnancy. In fact, I'm getting that numb, aching sensation now as I'm sitting up, typing. It's not too bad at the moment, but I expect it to get a whole lot worse in the next 6 weeks til my due date!

Sorry, can see that our experience of it isn't exactly the same as you find sitting up relieves it! I certainly didn't find that last time, which caused real problems with long car journeys!

Well a few weeks on now and the pain is no better - in fact its a lot worse. Tried the codeine but it did nothing! Did one tablet with one paracetemol but scared to take any more. Work is almost impossible now but i still have to hang in for a few more weeks. Nothing seems to relieve it now. It does feel like it goes through to my back as well but mainly it feels like pins and needles in my back rather than the searing excruciating pain at the front. Should i go back for more tests?? Still dont know what it really is. They did offer me a refferral to raditheraphy scan??

@Bunnyboo456 - this is an old thread but I posted something just like this last week! I've been told by midwife I've pulled a muscle! I'm 37+4 so thankfully will be over soon x
