i was prescribed these 2 weeks ago and thus far have been the only thing to abate/stop my constant vomiting. however, i am aware that less is known about this drug than other anti-emetics. the doctor read out the strapline in her drug journal which says 'not known to be dangerous, to be used only in compelling circumstances'. well at the time i was vomiting 20 times a day and was pretty desperate. i finished the course yesterday and went to see my doctor and as the sickness was under control, i asked to go on to something else as this drug worries me. i started on stemetil (which worked in my first preg) yesterday and the vomiting has started already. i feel i have no choice but to go back on to metaclopramide, as i have 2 small children and have already been off work for 5 weeks, but they do worry me. does anyone have any experience or words of wisdom on this drug to reassure me please? i am feeling pretty desperate already and i have to wait till 3pm to see the doc.....

Hi, I was prescribed it 2 weeks ago by my GP, who reassured me it was as safe as any of the other drugs available and the side effects were less (in terms of making you drousy etc) however it didn't make the blindest bit of difference to me so went back and got cyclizine which has been brilliant apart from the fact that it makes me feel pissed!. i read somewhere that there were 5 dugs for anti sickness and they were all rated level B for safety and both metaclopramide and cyclizine were in that 5 which basically meant as far as any research had been done they were low risk.
hope this helps a bit

it does thanks. it's strange though that the journal says only use it if you absolutely have to? that's what worries me. when i asked my doctor (foolishly) to switch to stemetil yesterday she jumped at the chance saying there's no point staying on these ones if you don't have to. all just confirmed my concerns really. but as it turns out i do have to be on them as i just can't keep throwing up every time i stand up or or take a drink. ho hum. thanks for the advice though. it's appreciated.

hope you get on ok at the docs, and you're right you can't keep on chucking up or you'll end up in hospital on a drip which is horrible all round.
