I always lost weight with my pregnacies due to hyperemesis, but no. 4 has been heaven compared as ive had managable sickness-but never felt so big. Ive gained about a stone and im 29 weeks. How does this compare just out of interest byw-im not dieting or anything. I just feel like i`ve put on more than necessary so far ?

That's quite impressive Milly! I put on 3 stone with my first one. This time I have put on 2 stone in 31 weeks. Likely to end up the same as last time. Luckily v. little morning sickness so had put on about a stone within 14 weeks.

I'm wondering whether if you have a lower starting weight you naturally gain more or whether the reverse is true??

pinkmook · 30/03/2010 15:04

Most people Ive known with a lower starting weight have put on more and those with average starting weight have put on less - but thats purely personal experience/friends/colleagues nothing scientific in it sure there will be 10 people now who contradict me

DomesticG0ddess · 30/03/2010 16:24

Did anyone put on weight AFTER having a baby? Even though I put on 3 stone with my son, about 6 weeks after I looked fine and 3 months later I was in a bikini and also felt fine, massive boobs and a bit flabby tum, but quite good considering. But then when I stopped breastfeeding completely I basically ballooned over that summer and was the largest I have ever been by the end of it. THAT is what took ages to shift (like 2 years!), not the baby weight. I basically carried on eating for two!

Thankfully though when I got pg this time I was exactly the same weight as when I got pg 4 years ago, so it did go!

pinkmook · 30/03/2010 16:37

no didnt put on after - but can I say my boobs are massive!! they must weigh half a stone! LOL ive gone from a modest 30 b/c to a massive 32 double D and im only just over half way through - when the milk comes in Oh my Lord !! They are looking at an E/F cup I reckon! eek!

DefNotYummyMummy · 30/03/2010 17:46

With my first I started at 9 and a half stone, bad m/s and ended well over 11 stone (stopped weighing myself !). Was a boy, but I did have pre-eclampsia and was quite swollen. With the second awful awful m/s (on medication) Started at 10 stone, ended at 10 and a half stone. Was a girl.
This time, started at 8 and a half stone, awful m/s up to 20 weeks and currently 10 and a half stone at 23 weeks (eeek !) So obviously not suffering that badly.
i think I have got used to eating whatever fends off the sickness. No excuse now. I have cut out the susage roll and jam doughnut I was used to having for breakfast every day (it's a start !)

pinkmook · 30/03/2010 17:58

DefNotYummyMummy - I feel where you're coming from

missytequila · 31/03/2010 10:25

I gained about 10 pounds straight away and hated it as no one could see a bump and I just felt crap.
Then in second trimester didnt gain that much, stayed 'neat', am now 38 weeks and have gained 30 pounds total, gained so much in month 8, bump became huge...

Its my first and I am already concerned at how I will possibly lose 30 pounds!

Sophie78 · 01/04/2010 09:53

I'm 29 weeks today with my first and have gained just over 2 stone already! I havent suffered any sickness throughout so far have had a VERY healthly appitite, although I havent been a piggy!

To be honest I am a bit concerned what my total weight gain will be by the end of the pregnancy & how I will loose it, but as long as the baby is healthy & being nourished by me thats the main thing, my midwife doesnt seem concerned. I plan to BF so hope that will help to shift it.

I think the guidelines to weight gain are not good, so many women that I have spoken to have put on much more than average and some much less. It depends on your individual build and how your body copes with being pregnant.

Just enjoy this lovely time in your life & worry about the weight gain later x

pinkmook · 01/04/2010 12:57

Good post sophie - I agree I really do think it depends on your build like you say, have a happy pregnancy x

mumabee · 01/04/2010 14:30

I am 33+5 with my first and have gained 7 kgs or 15.4 pounds so far. I was lucky not to have any morning sickness and have had a reasonably healthy diet (she says as she polishs off last night's curry, yum!

Interesting point you make sophie78 about body shape. I usually carry any extra weight all over, except on my tummy - face, arms, back, butt and thighs. Pregnancy has changed how my weight gain is distributed, I haven't put it on anywhere else, except on the bump. I am feeling the strain on my body, especially when I lie down and hope that I don't put on loads in the next 6 weeks or when my milk comes in.

2babesmum · 01/04/2010 20:05

I'm 23 weeks tomorrow and have gained a stone, bump is annoyingly tiny tho

GwennieF · 01/04/2010 20:58

Ahh.. don't worry - have only put on 18lb this time and am 26 weeks. Last time I stopped weighing myself at 12 week as I'd already put on a stone, ended up putting on about 4 stone but it all came off again after a few months.... The joys of breastfeeding!

Your midwife will tell you if you're geting too heavy.

nickytwotimes · 01/04/2010 21:04

I put on about 2.5 stones with ds.
Lost it after a bout a year without diet or gym or even bfing - just being busy and walking with the pram probably.
This time I lost a stone and a half with hyperemesis int he first 4 mths but am now 31 weeks and am about a stone and a half heavier than when I started. Now, if you factor in the stone and a half lost and then re-gained, I have a net gain so far of 3 stones! Luckily I was thin to start with and mw says I am fine. ANyway, after hyperemesis, I am just so glad to be enjoying eating and drinking well.

vickyob · 01/04/2010 21:13

How depressing Im 24 weeks and have put on 33lbs so far - I weighed myself on 3 different scales but no it's true.
this is pregnancy 4.
I managed 5 stone with the first but was back in a size 10 when she was 4 mths old.
All of them have been big DD1 9lb12, DS 7lb 6 (36 wk) DD2 9lb 13 (37wks).
I seem to be going up a bra size a week currently 34EE and have a child free wedding to go to in June and will look like a blimp who cant blot it out with alcohol.
Ive booked to do the great south run when my DD3 will be 12 weeks so at least I can strat feeling fitter

pinkmook · 01/04/2010 21:45

LOL vickyob I so know where ou are coming from - my first was 9lb 70z and my breasts are just gigantic now! Ususally a modest 30c now a massive 32 DD at least (thats the last time I measured them and just about cramming em in a 32dd bra at 26 weeks LOL

Good on you for booking the run - im not brave too lazy enough for that

mamamaisie · 06/04/2010 14:48

I normally watch my weight VERY carefully but while pregnant I just scoff whatever I want and don't feel any guilt about it!

First pregnancy: started at 45 kg (7stone 1lb) put on 10 kg (1 stone 8 pounds) by week 33 at which time baby was born. I lost 5kg (11 lb) during the birth and another 3kg (7 pounds) in the following 6 weeks while BF. The left over 2 kg (4.5 pounds) I had to actively diet to lose.

This time around I am 38 weeks and have so far gained 13kg (2 stone).

crazycrazy · 06/04/2010 14:52

I put on 4 stone, and have lost almost all of it now (2 years later though!)

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/04/2010 14:53

I put on about 4.5 stone with each pregnancy. Lost it and a bit more within 9 months with DS. Took longer with DD, although did put on an extra stone when she was about 1 as well.

katgod · 07/04/2010 11:22

I waddled to the pharmacy yesterday to weigh myself - we don't have scales at home as I usually think constant weighing unhealthy. 14 stone +. Ahhh. That's about 3 stone more than usual.
Being this heavy is such an incentive to stay reasonably thin when not pg. I hate how it feels, and can't wait to get back to some sort of normality.

Cosmosis · 07/04/2010 13:15

20 wks and have put on about 13lb I think.

legallyblond · 07/04/2010 15:34

Umm, not sure what's normal - so far I am 15 weeks and have gained 4.5 lbs.

lovetocookitalian · 07/04/2010 20:16

i only found out i was pregnant yesterday so this is all totally new ! but a friend came round just now and said have you put on weight?? can i really have put on weight already if i am only 4 weeks or something?!

Sassles · 07/04/2010 20:26

Google baby centre. They have a pregnancy weight gain calculator based on your height and weight. It also tells you exactly what makes up the weight, so nice to know it is not fat. Placenta, extra blood in system, amnoitoc fluid etc. It all adds up.

Basically if you are lucky to be a slim jim pre-pregnancy then you will put on quite a lot of weight as you need to build energy reserves and bigger boobs etc.

If like me, you were on the heavy side pre-pregnancy, then you should put on less weight. It estimates that I should put on about a stone to a stone and a half by full term. I am a size 22 and 5 foot 8 inches. I have been extremely lucky though and have actually lost weight in pregnancy (not through dieting, guess baby is just eating it all).

I still weigh less than before I was pregnant and I am now 36 weeks pregnant.

Lets hope it stays off!

S

lovetocookitalian · 07/04/2010 21:42

pinkmook · 08/04/2010 14:56
