Fibroids in pregnancy-Any Experiences?

I had 2 early scans with this pregnancy(because I had a MC last year), I'm 14 weeks tomorrow.
At my dating scan(3rd scan) I was found to have a fibroid(intramural), as well as a normal pregnancy(yeah!
Strangely the fibroid was the same size as the baby. What concerns me a bit it is that nothing was seen on my 2 early scans. So somehow I grew a 5 cm fibroid in about 5 weeks from scratch.
The sonographer was not bothered at all( but then she was extremely rude anyway) and I have seen my GP who thinks it is fairly common and wasn't too concerned. She did tell me to let the midwife know.I'm not due to see the midwife until the week after Easter.
Does anyone have fibriod pregnancy related experiences?Should I let the midwife know sooner? Should I insist on being referred to a consultant?
Or should I just stop worrying myself silly and go to sleep?

I think try not to worry. It's incredibly common to have fibroids. I had one in my last pregancy, it grew to about 7 x 8 cm, didn't cause a single problem. Strangely seems to have disappeared this preg, though they think it might be behind the baby. Even if you have more than one, as long as it/they are not blocking the exit (cervix) it should be fine, and they will probably check for that again at 20 weeks. Good luck and congratulations.

Try not to worry, but do mention it to the midwife.

I had a fibroid the size of an orange with my first child (coincidentally preceded by an mc 3 months earlier). The midwife had assumed it was a foot/hand sticking out when she examined me. It wasn't till I had a scan that the fibroid was noticed. The radiographer was all very matter of fact, said it was very common, and nothing to worry about. Within weeks of giving birth, the fibroid had disappeared.

I have a 4cm fibroid (on anterior fundal wall). I hadn't known it was there until I had my first scan during pregnancy. The only difference it made to my labour was that I had a managed 3rd stage (synthetic oxytocin given to make the uterus contract) to avoid excessive bleeding.

I had a scan today at 8 weeks, which showed that the two "so tiny they're insignificant" (according to the sonographer) fibroids that were spotted when I miscarried last year have both grown. One is now the size of a small grape and tucked away at the back of my uterus, and the other is cherry-sized and nearer my cervix. The doctor who I saw today thought that they were worth keeping an eye on, but wasn't too concerned. I was rather unnerved, but the internet (including the archives here) is full of stories of women with huge great whopping fibroids having healthy and straightforward pregnancies and births so I'm trying not to worry.
