hi

I am 13 weeks pregnant now i am constantly feel so tired all the time. i have read that tiredness is normal during the first trimester, but does it ever end as the pregnancy progresses. No amount of sleep seems to help and I don't even feel like doing anything in the house.

Please tell me it will get better?

It will - promise! I started to feel better about the 14 week mark and have gradually got more and more alert - I can stay awake until 11pm now!

Bumperlicious · 27/03/2010 21:02

God, it's horrid isn't it? Can't help as I am still in it at 14.5 weeks but then I have insomnia which has been making it worse.

I seem to remember it does get better. There is a short respite between the early pregnancy tiredness and the late tiredness that comes from feeling so uncomfortable and when turning over is like trying to move a sedated rhinoceros.

It's such a magical time

mrsmindcontrol · 27/03/2010 21:51

Hate to be the doom sayer but I am now 29 wks (admittedly this is my 3rd and am working 4 days a week on top of looking after a 2yr old and a 4yr old) and am still knackered. Tiredness has not abated one iota since day one. Am not anaemic either. Just old and shagged out.

Nymphadora · 27/03/2010 22:12

Mine is lifting at 10.5 weeks although I have just had a week off work so that may have helped!

UNtil last week though I was asleep by 7:30 so 10pm is quite a break through

blackcurrants · 27/03/2010 22:21

It's foul, isn't it? Mine started getting better around 13-14 weeks, and I've been feeling pretty good until now (23wks) though I'm starting to lose some of the energy again. I know it's different for everyone (and I'm sure I've been less tired cos I don't have any kids YET) but here's hoping you get a great energy boost soon!

MarineIguana · 27/03/2010 22:33

First time it faded by about 15 weeks, second time it lasted a bit longer. It's true that you get tired again at the end but for me that was different, that was more like just what you'd expect from being very big and heavy and having to get up in the night to wee etc. I have never known tiredness like 1st trimester tiredness, it's awful (unless of course you are at leisure to sleep non-stop, then it must be lovely!) it will get better.

Allegrogirl · 28/03/2010 09:47

Mine got much better around 14-15 weeks but I'm still no where near normal. I was tired throughout in my last pregnancy and this time I have a two year old so not expecting it to be any better.

I've given up waiting for the 2nd trimester burst of energy but I can cope a bit better now.

daisystone · 28/03/2010 10:14

It's a nightmare isn't it? I get so tired that I think I am going to have a tantrum and burst into tears. Try to nap if you can.

Or pray that it will be over soon!

mumtotwoboys · 28/03/2010 11:01

I think early pregnancy can be far worse for tiredness/sickness.
I'm 38 weeks now and feel far more alive than I did at 10 weeks.
People don't realise this, I had MIL calling me lazy behind my back cause I needed to nap while being 'hardly even pregnant yet'.
It's the hormones that exhaust you though and during early pregnancy there's massive changes going on, infact it's the fastest growing time for baby isn't it, so lots of energy going into him her. I felt week from my stomach to my head to my fingertips.

Now at the end of pregnancy the only issue is weight really.
I walked two miles yesterday, the only issue was my stomach muscles feeling like they might snap with all streching, but rest of my body is fine.

mumtotwoboys · 28/03/2010 11:03

I'm trying to convince people to go hiking with me today, being 9months pregnant, they think I'm crazy.
Just shows you can feel great while pregnant, after all the nausea and tiredness goes and your bodies adapts to it all.

Oh yes. It's subject close to my heart!

mollybob · 28/03/2010 11:30

No let up here either - 32 weeks with DC3 - I am older than last two (DC1 is nearly 12) and I felt great at the end of my other two pregnancies. Hope that happens for you.

tartyhighheels · 28/03/2010 11:34

I am 17 weeks and still knackered - this is because i am anaemic but didn't know until quite recently. If it goes on for too long do make sure you get it checked as this is my fourth baby and it was never like this before - mine normally tailed off at about 14 weeks or so.

mollybob · 28/03/2010 11:39

they told me at about 16 weeks I was anaemic and I really hoped the iron would make me less tired - I'm still taking it and now not anaemic and still exhausted

so I'm just old, basically

tanmu82 · 28/03/2010 11:46

This is my 3rd pg (8+5) and I am so shattered I have done nothing but lie on the sofa all day since Friday! I have an almost 7 yr old and a 5 yr old and I work full time so I suppose this contributes, but this time around the tiredness is like nothing I've known! I am waiting for a blood test to check my thyroid and my iron levels as even getting dressed has to be done in stages or I feel like dropping. I am hoping to feel better pronto because the weather is getting nicer and I hate stagnating indoors and not taking the kids out for to the park and stuff when it's sunny outside....but at 8+5 I still have a month or so I reckon

bagelmonster · 28/03/2010 12:01

I am now 30 weeks and been feeling rather crappy and tired for ages now. Blood test came back yesterday with Very low iron levels which explains it all now! just wish i had found that out sooner, off to gp tomorrow to get some tablets, hopefully will give me some more energy, still working full time as a nursery nurse and have a 5 year old. Def worth requesting a blood test if your so tired.

MarineIguana · 28/03/2010 12:43

I had the iron and thyroid tests and they came back fine so it isn't necessarily that - however it is a good idea to top up your iron anyway as it helps you maintain good levels after the birth (esp if you have a c-section). I used Spatone (liquid iron sachets) in my most recent pregnancy which I really liked. Floradix is another liquid iron supplement I think. Less likely to give you constipation than pills.

MamaVoo · 28/03/2010 12:50

Look on it as practice. I've been tired for 2.5 years now and there's still no end in sight.

AliGrylls · 28/03/2010 12:53

I found it got better in the second trimester and was fine until the middle of the third. The last 6 weeks are the worst - atm you are in training for what is to come.

Monkor · 28/03/2010 14:38

Thanks for all the posts. much appreciated and I am glad that its not just me being lazy!

beanlet · 28/03/2010 17:40

I was hideously exhausted through the first trimester, up to about 14 weeks I've never been so tired in my life, it was just a whole different quality of tired. Since then I've felt fabulous emotionally, new lease of life and lots of energy though not much enjoying aches and pains of various kinds. Yes, in my experience, the tiredness clears up. You don't have long to go -- hang in there!

MumNWLondon · 28/03/2010 18:44

MarineIguana was right to request both thyroid and iron tests - important to rule both of these out. If its either of these things can be fixed very quickly.

I read somewhere that 10% of pregnant women have an undiagnosed thyroid problem and this is not something that is routinely tested. I found that tiredness from an underactive thyroid would be all day tiredness, eg in the morning even after getting 10 hours sleep - if you are in any doubt worth asking for a test.

lynlee · 25/02/2012 17:37

Hi I'm new to the site I'm 10 weeks pregnant with my first and I honestly thought I was dying with my tiredness. Its my whole body - tiring to breathe or move even. I started to worry that it may be chronic fatigue syndrome as I wasnt aware pregnancy can make you feel so bad. I have tried exercise but find that afterwards - even if its light exercise I am wiped for days - does anyone else get this as I am scared I may have something wrong with me?
Thanks
