dss2sgf is 33 weeks

for about 5 days now she has been having what she describes as hideous period pains very low down

then today she mentioned they were coming and going and lasting 10 secs

she has been taking paracetemol

is this normal effacing, head engaging stuff (she can now take a deep breath)

I'm just useless at remembering what I experienced and it her first and I feel like her mum and want her and baby to be ok

I'm panicking a little

Trinity, stop panicking. Do you have the midwife's number? yes? then please give her a ring and ask her to check things out.

MumNWLondon · 26/03/2010 17:38

If hideous pains (rather than Braxton Hicks) she hould call midwife to discuss esp as it pre-term.

FabIsGettingThere · 26/03/2010 17:39

Call the midwife.

EccentricaGallumbits · 26/03/2010 17:41

don't panic.

get her to call her midwife or as it's after hours the delivery unit.

braxton hicks can be uncomfortable but shouldn't be painful.

it may be just that babe has moved down a bit but she needs checking.

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 26/03/2010 17:41

ok as its not me how do I tell if she is calling them hideous when they aren't that bad or what
do you know what I mean?

how do I gauge it?

I dont want to worry her

she does grimace when it happens and she hasn't whinged about other ailments in all the time I have known her

How long do they last?
How often is she getting them?
Can she do something else when she gets them?
Do they go away if she eats or moves or distracts herself?

BTW, agree mw is always good idea, esp as she is only 33 weeks

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 26/03/2010 17:48

well I've just gone and spoken to her and she says she been crampy for a week but worse today

it never goes completely but gets worse for 10 secs or so

Early labour?

On the grounds this is different/new and she is in pain I would ring the hospital.

Can she talk through them?

DarrellRivers · 26/03/2010 17:51

It's so difficult to say over the internet to say whether it is something or nothing
Everyone is so different
Speak to the midwife particularly if is worse today

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 26/03/2010 20:52

just got back from the hospital
urine infection
she has antibiotics and I've bought cranberry juice nd apple fruit and barley juices

thanks all

I should have thought of that!

I had this at 19+5 and was convinced it was labour if I had been near term. I had to stay in A&E as if the baby was coming they wouldn't try and save it.

Never been so happy to have a UTI.

Trinity - hope you all get a good nights sleep now.

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 26/03/2010 21:34

thanks fab#
I must say I was awfully relieved
it was a UTI

when I went up to talk to her again and say that we should ring the midwife she burst into tearssaying she was scared and didn't know what it was.

poor girl had been putting on a brave face
I hugged her and we phoned the midwife

she is snuggled on the couch with cranberry juice now
