Anyone else had 'increased placenta blood flow resistance' at anomaly scan?

I had my 20 week scan today and although I am perfectly fine and baby is perfectly fine, the uterine artery doppler bit (?!) showed that my blood was flowing too fast between baby and placenta. Sonographer was very good about explaining that it is just 1 symptom that CAN mean a higher risk of pre-eclampsia, but I'm still a bit worried.

My blood pressure has been fine every time I have had it taken and I'm not in any high risk category on weight or pre-existing medical conditions and DH is telling me to relax about it as it is just a theoretical risk which they want to monitor with a further scan. But still, any reassurance gratefully received!

I had this with DS. I had an extra detailed scan with consultant because of previous history of pre eclampsia. I had more frequent growth scans because of this and my history. I did get raised blood pressure and was induced at 38 weeks but no full blown pre e.

I would say don't worry they might watch you a little more carefully but it can mean something and it can mean nothing and all you can do is wait.

I had bilateral uterine artery notching, not sure if this is the same thing? It was picked up on my 20 week uterine doppler scan. I was also told it increased my chances of developing PE. My BP was lovely & fine at this point. I had fortnightly scans to check on the baby growth, but that was always fine. I did suddenly get high BP at 35 weeks though, with severe swelling and ++ protien. I was immeadiatly induced, and my DS spent a week in SCBU.

Thanks mspotatochip and maduggar. I'll do my best not to worry - current blood pressure and baby growth are absolutely fine, and I guess it is better to monitored more regularly than get a nasty shock at the end! At this stage, I've got one extra scan booked in for mid-May where they will check growth again.

For the time being I will channel my inner calmness (or some such other thing which will help me relax) and use it as a bonafide reason to leave work on time and get DH to treat me like a princess ...

Thanks

sounds like an excellent plan

I too had this at my 20 week scan with DD1. At the time all was fine. At 34 weeks my BP started to climb, at 36 weeks I started to swell and at 37 weeks I got +++ protein. I was induced at 38 weeks and DD1 was absolutley fine. In fact she weighed 9lbs 4oz so the mild pre-e clearly didn't affect her growth. Second pregnancy was complication free.

Try not to worry. Even if you do get pre-e you ate being carefully monitored which should help avoid major complications.
