To Veet or not to Veet?

Or other brand of your choice, obviously.

I steered clear of this last pregnancy and just attempted not to cut myself with my razor too often! This time round, I just don't know. Is it safe or not? The chemicals worry me a little and my MS probably means I couldn't stand it at the moment. But if that subsides then I might be very tempted. What do you think?

I think waxing is supposed to be safer in pregnancy. Also much slower regrowth, i highly reccommend it.

I went for a brazilian today at 32+3. Pre pregnancy this was a normal monthly ritual for me, but I've let things ahem, go, for several months... Oh. My. God. Hurt like hell. Worse than everrr before. Now feeling quite sorry for myself and my John Wayne walk

carolondon · 25/03/2010 19:41

That's interesting first1. i am 21 weeks and feel odd about going for a brazillian (i usually have one every 6-8 weeks, last one was Jan). I was thinking about trimming instead. Did your waxer comment on how pregnant you were? Don't know why i feel odd about this.

I have got some home waxing strips. May have to steel myself to try. I did get my legs waxed twice a good few years ago but I found it didn't get rid of all the hairs so have been dubious about trying it again, particularly DIY.

Oooo don't DIY Allie! Agree waxing is best but does smart a bit especially when preggers

HelenaCC · 25/03/2010 20:56

Im 17 weeks and went for a leg and bikini wax today. Ive not felt like looking after myself so I was the long haired yeti woman !! Would definitely recommend waxing over veet any day of the year. My very lovely waxer says shes happy for me to keep coming all the way through pregnancy, you just have to lie on your side rather than your front a bit more when youre really big. If you get waxed you wont have to worry about hair for another month at least and we were talking about how lots of people (myself included) dont find their body hair growing as quickly when pregnant.

I cant recommend home waxing, although it beats veet. I never get as good results on the DIY. Its better just to let someone else do it quickly.

I have an epilator for my legs. Really great as it removes even really short hair. Especially good in the summer months, you don't have to cover up your legs for 2 months out of every four!

If I can no longer see my bits am I turning into a hairy monster? Or is ignorance bliss?

Will MW scream when I'm in labour and take my knickers off?

millingtonsmummy · 26/03/2010 13:57

I had a standard bikini wax last week and fainted!! I'd like to tell you that it was because it was very hot in the treatment room and I have low blood pressure but honestly ... waxing hurts like hell when pregnant and I'm a wimp. Still worth it in my opinion and will need to fit in another before my due date in 6 weeks. Deep breaths!

first1 · 26/03/2010 16:47

carolondon This particular girl I've seen tons of times before, so she was fine about it, but I did ak the last time I went (about 12 weeks ago, shame ) about coming further along in pregnancy and she said it was ok. Didn't feel weird about it, we both just laughed when baby was squirming all over the place.

whippybamboo · 26/03/2010 16:50

Waxing - it's much better than shaving or veet. Hair takes a good 4 weeks to grow back

ARbaby · 26/03/2010 17:50

I just think out of sight out of mind. It's liberating not having to bother! I can't see my leg hair at all, it's too far away.

KatieLunn · 27/03/2010 21:04

I just had everything taken off today (36 weeks + 6) and it hurt like hell itself had landed on my bits. BUT. In my head, I would rather not have anyone at the hospital shaving me as I get razor rash in the event of any intrvention.

And I know everyone says it doesn't matter and I won't care on the day, but there are going to be people staring intently at my crotch. AT MY CROTCH. It's the only way I can grasp at some dignity.

NKffffffffee0f8010X1140828dc0e · 27/03/2010 22:20

Katie - the timing is tricky, i mean you could end up having people staring at your crotch when it's covered in stubble!

Anyway, i was going on a spa day recently but couldn't see my bits in order to veet beforehand and didn't want to be self concious in bikini so i asked dh if he could trim bikini line for me. He totally took advantage and took the lot off, the cheeky bugger!

virgo1979 · 30/03/2010 11:26

in response to the original question i did ask my midwife i the early stages if it was ok to veet and the answer was yes. although have got a waxing session booked in this weekend (29 weeks) and may have to pop a paracetamol to help with the pain......doesnt bother me being hairy to be honest ( not exactly summer dress weather at the moment) but feel a bit bad for DH when i have more leg hair than he does.......
