Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

Aargh, do you think it's implantation, mc or (gasp) ectopic?

Name changed, not telling anyone about being preggers just yet

Think I'm 5+2 today - irregular cycle

Due to see GP this afternoon to confirm pregnancy and be entered into the system and all that.

Tiny bit of bright red blood this morning when I wiped (so am a bit worried).

Already had brown spotty implantation-type bleed around due date.

Didn't get any blood at all after due date with viable preggers but did get some with a previous m/c so am a bit jittery.

Also some intermittent mild abdominal pains that vary from slightly sharp-to-crampy to bloatey feeling (not like period, more like bowel).

Nice BFP this morning.

Have half convinced myself that I'm having an ectopic .

Hopefully all will be discussed when I see the doc later today.

I quite like this GP but am not sure that pregnancy matters are her forte, so would sort of like an idea of what could be happening before I see her. (In case I have to nudge her to refer me to early pregnancy unit or something).

What I'd really like is reassurance but would appreciate any honest opinions as well. Thanks!

Oh forgot to say where pains are - low down (sort of half way between naval and leg crease) and just on left side

I don't know. But I do know that when I miscarried at about the same stage it was surprisingly painful so I was kept in hospital for observation until they were able to do a scan to check whether it was ectopic. It wasn't, but I guess that the pain must be a suggestion that it is a possibility. I think you should get down to the EPU. I hope it turns out to be nothing at all and your pregnancy is fine.

hello,

just to say I would second asking for a referral for a reassurance scan from the EPU. I'm 7+1 and have had intermittent spotting for a couple of weeks now - had one early scan at 5+3 and another coming this Thursday. Obviously there's nothing they can do if there's something wrong but it helps to know a bit about what's going on. So for example at my first scan, they couldn't get a heartbeat, but at least they could see it wasn't ectopic.

Good luck - and if it helps, I am trying to comfort myself with the thought that most bleeding in early pregnancy doesn't lead to miscarriage.

Thanks, Aranea - and sorry to hear about your painful mc And thanks for the good wishes!

This does feel a bit like the first (barely noticeable) signs of my previous mc. And I think you're right about getting it checked - better safe than sorry.

My EPU will be reluctant to see me without a referral (even if the referral is just me telling them that my mw or GP told me to call them). So I'll have to talk to the GP first. But I'll press her for a 'yes you should call the EPU' statement

Sorry Pidgin, cross-posted - thanks v. much, (more knowledge for me when discussing with GP) - and good luck to you!

Thanks again for replying

Saw the doc and straight away asked her if I could have a referral to the EPU and told her why.

She phoned the EPU right there. They said they'd do bloods at this stage (doc took first sample and I have to go to the EPU in a couple of days for the next sample). Apparently if all looks well then they'll scan me later (once there's a chance of seeing a heartbeat). Not sure what happens if the blood test gives a bad result - I suppose a scan or various management options, depending on symptoms.

I have a bad feeling about this one as it feels much more like the pregnancy that was miscarried

On the other hand, if all is well (fingers crossed!) then having this little scare has got me a sweet little EPU referral that it looks as though I otherwise would not have got. Thanks again for all your advice; if I hadn't emphasised some of the points that you'd made with the doc then she might not have made the phone call

Good luck. It's good that you'll be finding out what is going on. It is awful not knowing.
