Hello to everyone
my concern is i would like to have baby soon and i'm quiet overweight. my height is 5 feet 1 inch and weighing 71 kilo. even though im going to the gym and have been trying to follow a healthy meal includes lots of water, veggie and fuits, im not losing it off very quick. i dont have any baby yet and 23 years old. So, i'm very anxious about the fact that if i would be able to get pregnent easily and even if i do get pregnent will there be any complications that may occur becouse of my weight?
My another question is how difficult it would be for me to shed this weight off after giving birth?
it would be really great if any1 out there like to share their experience with me or provide me any suggestion.

ok well you're only 23 so it's not like there is a HUGE rush to have a baby. you have time to lose weight if you want to do so

plenty of larger women have babies, and plenty of them have no complications, but you should be aware that there can be problems linked to your weight, which could affect yourself and your baby., gestational diabetes for one, which is more likely in women wtih a high BMI

I wasn't particularly overweight when I had my first 2 chidlren, but after my second I did lose weight, and got fitter and I can honestly say that my third pregnancy was so much easier and enjoyable than the first 2.

so, your weight isn't necessarily something that should prevent you from falling pregnant and having a healthy baby, but I think that losing weight is worth doing and it's going to be easier to lose the weight now than to try and do it after the birth IMO.

I am 165cm and was 96Kg when I got pregnant which gave me a BMI of 35. I am a size 16 and don't consider myself huge, plus I walk for at least an hour a day most of which I am pushing a pushchair so am reasonably active. I know that my problem is I eat too much! I eat less now as with my first pregnancy I could only eat small portions and have made an effort to keep to those portion size but I would then eat a lot of chocolate/biscuits/cakes etc.

I lost 14 Kg in the first 3 months with my first pregnancy and at full term weighed less than before I was pregnant due to sickness.

THis time I have lost 7Kg and had my booking appointment earlier so I had a higher BMI. The guidelines at the moment are those who have a BMI 30 and over have a Glucose Tolerance Test to check for gestational diabetes and extra growth scans to check the size of the baby. A BMI of 35 and over means you have consultant led care.

As I had a 8lb12 baby last time who was 2 weeks over due I don't think I am at particular risk but am following what I have been told at the moment. I am much fitter this time around and have always had low blood pressure.

The extra monitoring is a pain because it means more time off work and I am self-employed but the biggest issue for me is whether I will be treated as high risk and stopped from having the natural labour I would really like to have and didn't manage last time because of induction.

I have put your details into a BMI calculator and your BMI is 29.5. So you would be on the border for extra monitoring, if you would like as little intervention as possible I would suggest you shift a bit of weight before getting pregnant. Have you looked at how much you eat as well as what you eat? Make a diary of EVERYTHING you eat in a day it may surprise you.

As for shifting weight I would say that really depends. I was 96Kg at full term and 2 weeks later was 74Kg. I don't think that is the norm but my baby liked his milk!! I put weight back on with every feed he dropped until I stopped feeding him at 15months totally and was nearly where i started before pregnancy

Sorry this ended up a bit long, might give you some things to think about though

I was the same height and weight as you when I was pregnant the first time and again this time. I had no trouble losing the 2 1/2- 3 stone I put on when pregnant, without really trying, though I did breastfeed for a year. I lost all bar 1/2 stone, then the last bit dropped off when I stopped bfing. I think the fact you are going to the gym is good as this will give you the stamina you need for the birth, and the eating well will mean you won't add any extra than your body needs. Can't comment on whether my weight affected the birth as I ended up with a cs due to not finding baby's heartbeat early in labour, so didn't get very far!
If you want to lose weight before you try though, it may be worth joining weightwatchers or something, I did this years before, when i weighed a bit less, thought I'd been eating healthily, but didn't seem to be losing any despite going to gym too! Turns out I was eating just that little bit extra that meant while i didn't put any more on, I didn't lose any either! I did it online, which was cheaper.
Hope that helps!
