Horrible acid indigestion

OK so it is probably my fault - I get constant indigestion anyway and swig bottles of Gaviscon, so eating an indian takeaway last night and mexican for lunch today was not the brightest idea!
But this is horrible, I feel like my windpipe is on fire - what is best thing to do, eat? Stay clear of food? Gaviscon not touching it tonight......

I get it so badly it makes me sick - could be sick 5 - 10 times a day with it and would just be acid that came up if that makes sense and isnt tmi!

My doctor said it was fine to take ranitidine tablets - tiny tablets you swallow rather than chew (chewy ones or liquid made me sick as well). Worked wonders. Worth checking if its really getting to you - although probably best to stay away from curries

I had this really badly with DC4 and have it pretty bad with this one.

I use remigel as they taste ok and they seem to work.

If you are getting it bad enough to make you sick I wouldnt eat after about 6pm.

No spicy stuff

Have a glass of milk and your chosen remedy on standby next to your bed.

Sleep propped up.

If I dont do these things I wake myself up by being sick in my mouth EWWWWWWWWWWW!

Me too (now 35 weeks)- chundered on Gaviscon only a couple of hours ago - I had it with DC1 too - HORRIBLE! I hate Gaviscon - but it can help (the ADVANCE stuff from pharmacies) if you can keep it down!!

Avoid spicy food at all costs. Also avoid milk and dairy products (I know, I know - we all think that a glass of milk will help - me included but in fact it makes it much worse).

Ranitidine can really really help - I used it A LOT in my first pregnancy but it should be prescribed. I wouldn't have got through without it - certainly wouldn't have slept.

Sympathy to all of you - it's such a vile preggo side effect.

Same situation here - it got so bad that I was waking up all through the night with it. A friend recommended acupuncture and I've had a couple of treatments and found it's made a big difference - a bottle of Gaviscon is lasting me more than a few days now! You need to find an acupuncturist who specialises in pregnancy issues and they should be able to help you.

Thanks all - had some bland pasta and feel a little better. Will try gav advance and maybe look into acupuncture

I had it really badly with both pregnancies. It is probably the worst thing about being pregnant.

Have heard that Cool Mama heartburn tea is good for heartburn?

I find that nothing works except Rennie's chewable spearmint thingies. They taste like Pacers too (remember them?).

roary · 23/03/2010 12:42

Ranitidine, ranitidine, ranitidine. Will fix you right up!

first1 · 23/03/2010 12:56

I've just been prescribed ranitidine but been told can't be taken close to the time you'd take gaviscon. GP has suggested ranitidine in the morn and gaviscon in the eve or v/v. So will take it in the morning and report back!

thumbwitch · 23/03/2010 12:57

vanilla ice cream worked well for me. I couldn't stomach gaviscon.
