Hello fellow breeders!

First time preg, 8 weeks, I am 37 yrs old.

Perm MS without the throwing up, but there are lots of threads about this, so I won't go on about it.

However, I was wondering if anyone else is finding themselves to be... how to put it... terribly anti-social?! To put it bluntly, even though I have not changed my good/healthy diet (loads of veg etc), I have started farting like a trooper, and to be frank, the smell is so bad I am repulsing myself, let alone any other poor bugger standing within 500 metres of me.

Please tell me I am not alone in my malodorous condition?! And what can I do about it?

same here - DH is appalled

Holly29 · 22/03/2010 11:56

Hm. 33 weeks pg here and still the same... Not sure what to suggest apart from spending lots of time on your own...

Jayfer · 22/03/2010 13:24

better out than in I suppose, although not sure DH would agree!

tanmu82 · 22/03/2010 14:20

I said as much to DH last night and he looked at me with disgust...he is very sensitive about those sorts of things.....bless!

Allegrogirl · 22/03/2010 14:24

Second time pregnant and very windy here. Didn't really suffer from it last time. Constipated too which is also a new one for me.

I feel very sexy and attractive, not. The smell is not helpful when you already have 24 hour nausea.

Had to leave a wedding early on Saturday as I was so uncomfortable. Luckily dh was too pissed to notice.

carolondon · 22/03/2010 14:42

Me too! However am now 20 weeks and it has eased a bit. I am still getting more wind than usual but it is not quite as anti-social and less frequent. My DH complained and i told him he would just have to put up with it. It is not our fault, i think your digestive system changes when pregnant.

nunnie · 22/03/2010 14:51

Me too, with me dd I had it right through, then for the last week, I had it really bad couldn't move without parting with one and they got louder and louder. This time occasionally they are loud, but thankfully more often than not they are silent however always violent. I started blaiming the dog, but even he won't stay in the room long enough for me to blame him now.

Poledra · 22/03/2010 14:55

You probably don't want to hear this but...

I was like this through all 3 of my pregnancies. Fortunately, DH is more likely to laugh about it than get offended. I was driven to 'crop-dusting' when at work . There was nothing I found to help it. Sorry.

ilovepeas · 22/03/2010 17:52

Same with me... they never used to be noisy but thank god I am in an office alone as they are suddenly rather loud. As my DH says 'Better an empty house than an angry tenant' !!

crumpetsolo · 22/03/2010 17:58

LOL at the dog not staying in the room long enough for you to blame him nunnie - that's the most I've giggled all day. I think you just have to embrace it (!) as there's nothing can be done. I was like this with DS1, only 7 weeks with this one and it hasn't started in earnest yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Trump trump. Maybe I should get a dog...

holytoast · 22/03/2010 18:06

Me too - although I am also lactose intolerant, and its got worse, which adds a whole new element...I am a teacher too, once had some boys back after school at a club and let one rip unexpectedly...they will dine out on that story for years to come..

Its something to do with the food being slower to pass through your system, which in turn means the bacteria have longer to work on it, and create more gas...I think...avoid too much roughage that takes time to break down, and I use deflatine and yoga positions if its trapped wind, which is horrible. Think it was worse at the start for me though, better now. worth keeping a food diary to see what is causing it, can be a bit hit and miss though.
Oh, and blaming it on the goldfish doesn't work.

Bexybear · 22/03/2010 18:59

oh god its awful... ive been farting and belching like some kind of medieval peasant since week six - had ms so badly i was bedridden so at least the general public were not exposed to the early stages. Now 37 weeks the smell is less offensive but the volume is much much louder(thall be the piles! sorry tmi) I sleep in the spare room for all our sakes though DH (not known for his subtlety in the wind department) barely seems to notice and DS just finds it hilarious

hmmm should really name change emoticon

crumpetsolo · 22/03/2010 20:27

I love this thread, it is hilarious. More please

BranflakeGirl · 23/03/2010 19:50

holytoast - I am lactose intolerant too. Actually with me it's ALL dairy so can't even have lacto-free. It's no fun, the slightest hint of dairy in anything and I have the most awful bloating and trapped wind pains...not to mention the botty burps Thankfully not smelly ones though.

I actually make a joke of it with DH, when I feel one coming on I cock a leg and yell "Botty burp!"

My Mum died of bowel cancer and was told by her consultant that holding in farts can encourage it's growth so I am a firm believer in "better out than in".

ellesabe · 23/03/2010 20:16

I'm also farting like a trooper over here

BranflakeGirl · 23/03/2010 23:10

I'm wondering is MN should come with a hurricane warning!!! Lol!!!

daisystone · 24/03/2010 08:05

Yep, I am like a trucker. My husband finds it amusing but I don't feel very feminine.

In fact I feel like a gassy, constipated, moody, tired cow with big udders.

mavies · 24/03/2010 09:55

Fair play to you lot for being so honest, thank you sooo much!I have been laughing like a drain. It is a, ahem, 'relief' to hear that its not just me.

I will continue to trump, disgust those around me, and look with an innocent face and say 'I can't help it...!'

Gas masks all round girlies!

I have perfected the art of the belch (big beer drinking style rolling long ones)- which I think is wholly preferable to a fart. My DH is circumspect about it, but if the wind is going for an exit at the other end, I do leave the room first! Depending on what I eat, I can get an instant bloat- fruit salad seems to be a main culprit, but at the moment, I am on my own in the week, so I just annoy the dog.

The trouble is though, at times, there's no warning and an involuntary burp/fart in company is highly embarrassing.
