Short term use of codeine in pregnancy

I've put my upper back into spasm yesterday descaling the shower. Currently 28w pregnant and feeling v sorry for myself. Trying to get by with paracetamol but finding it barely takes the edge off the pain - not helped by constant coughing and nose blowing due to cold. Have been debating using some cocodamol 8/500 - not recommended but used in pregnancy. Seems short term use ok. Does anyone have experience of using this is pregnancy?

What about trying some ibuprofen gel?
Funnily enough I did a very similar thing yesterday, DD was playing and she jumped on me and I have pulled a muscle in my neck / shoulder. Hurts so much, but at least I am not pregnant too so I can bring out the big guns!
Codeine has not touched it either, tbh so I wouldn't be recommending it.
I guess you should be able to use ibuprofen gel, very limite amounts absorbed into blood stream.
Have sent DH out to get me some cos I could not drive at the moment.

I have had problems before with muscle spasms in my lower back and so checked with the doctor about taking cocodamol and was told as long as it's not for a prolonged period it should be ok but to be careful as the baby can become addicted to the codine.

Personally I wouldn't use any ibuprofen products. I have found one of the best things for my muscle spasms were the heat pads you can buy from chemists or even supermarkets now. Thermacare are the best I've tried as I've tried them all at some point but they are also the most expensive. The pads have some adhesive on the back of them so you can stick them on the muscle you're having problems with. I've found them to be far more effective than anything else including cocodamol and was told by my doctor they were safe to use in pregnancy. I know how painful muscle spasms can be so I hope you get some relief soon!

Thanks for the advice. The pain seems to be letting up slightly so hopefully won't need any stronger painkillers. How I'm going to cope with my cleaning urges I do not know!

Heat pads; or do you have a pregnancy TENS machine? I think you can use them just as normal TENS machines if you do... but I'd avoid ibuprofen, just in case. My mum has back problems and uses heat or cold to ease them - eg heat pad followed by pack of peas. For the cold, a more convenient form would be one of those cold sprays - and the advantage would be if there's any left they are v handy to have during labour when you get ridiculously hot...
