Evening all, I'm sure it's nothing but I've been having cramps on and off today (8 weeks). I don't even have a booking appt until 12+6 (!) and no scan date yet so I have no idea who on earth I'm supposed to talk to if I'm worried.

I live in South West London and am in the Guy's and St Thomas's catchment area.

Call nearest hospital - ask for early pregnancy unit and ask them for advice.

I didn't get a mw until 28 weeks (!). Non-urgent I'd say GP, very urgent, straight to A and E, or urgent but not in danger ring maternity unit and ask to be put through to appropriate person after explaining to reception.

By the way if it's only cramps, no bleeding, many women experience this. I did. Still seek advice, but just wanted to reassure you. I had cramps and some bleeding every time my period was due until 5 months.

St Thomas' hve a special number to call if you are less than 18 weeks. I don't know what it is (it might have been called the emergency-gynae dept??), but suggest you call the general St Thomas hospital number, ask for the maternity ward and the they can put you through to the right number - or tell you what it is. Def get it checked out. When I had panics they were quite good (tho I don't think any hospital treat you with quite the speed and care that an expectant mother needs in such circumstances).

I didn't have a booking appt until just after 12 weeks - I think that's normal.
I wouldn't bother with a doctore - they are not specialist enough - and will just tell you to go to hospital.

Go to the hosp EPU or St Georges EPU

kawaiiko did you sort this out? If not my advice would be call your GP's number, the answerphone message will probably give an out of hours number for emergencies. Failing that try and get hold of the Day Assessment Unit at St. Thomas' (they are notoriously hard to get through to though). Failing that if it's really bad I would just turn up at A&E at George's or Thomas' (I did this a few times last time round including once at 7 wks with bleeding and cramps - they scanned me and all fine).

Hello all, thanks for the advice. I went along to St Thomas's Emergency Gynaecology Unit yesterday and they took bloods, urine samples, swabs etc. Waiting to get the bloods back this evening and am booked in for a scan tomorrow which will hopefully set my mind at rest.

The cramps have eased off although I am still getting random stabbing pains in my vagina. The most worrying thing was on Saturday when I had horrific cramp post-orgasm, for about 2-3 minutes. I couldn't straighten up! Has anyone else experienced that?!

Good news Had a scan yesterday and everything is absolutely fine - got to see a heartbeat! They did find a cyst on my right ovary which they thought might have been causing the pain so going to keep an eye on it.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm such a worrywort
