34 weeks pregnant, relative ill in Boston, USA, really need to go over, from London. Can I fly? Which airlines are best if yes? Any special considerations?

I'm not sure you can. I think most airlines have a limit of 28 weeks, some 30 weeks.

If you do manage to go remember to get very good health insurance. I live in the US and you wil be in big trouble if you go in to labour in the US without it.

Regards.

I'm flying to New York in ten days time with Delta. I'll be 29 weeks. I've spoken to them several times and they are very clear they have no cut off date for flying pregnant women. All the same I'm going to get a medical cert (a lot of airlines do require this after 28 weeks) and obviously very good insurance is the big issue in the States.

I think BA also have no/very late cut off date but possibly not the best option at the moment!

Two things to think about - will the airline let you fly, up until when regarding getting back again; and can you get travel insurance. If you're going to the USA you MUST make sure you have adequate insurance.

It looks like American airlines, Continental and BA are all OK with you flying up to 36 weeks (BA need a medical note to say you have no problems).

Re travel insurance, have a look at this site: here. I have no direct experience of them but they insure up to 36 weeks.

Ah yes, I forgot about the BA strikes!

hi there, i flew at 35 weeks, no problem but needed a medical certificate (flew with BA). Don't know about insurance etc. in USA, but in terms of the flight itself, either upgrade if you can, or get yourself a seat in the emergency exit row, this way I had loads more leg room. Drink loads of water, stay mobile, I also had low molecular weight heparin injection (against blood clotting). Oh, and BAs cutoff is 36 weeks, so consider this for your flight back. Err...loose and comfy clothes, comfy shoes as feet do swell up. Make sure you can rest when you land. Good luck!
