I'm so upset this morning. I'm 11+1 weeks pg and I've been waiting and waiting for a date for my 12 week scan from the hospital. I rang them this morning and they tell me they have no record of me on their system, no letter from my GP etc etc (I went to my GP at 6 weeks) The GP surgery tell me their records show that a letter has been sent. Anyway, the hospital tell me the first scan they can give me is when I will be 15 weeks! I've told them this is not acceptable and now I'm waiting for them to get back to me, hopefully with an alternative.

Do any of you have experiences like this? Am I right in thinking that 15 weeks is too late for this? What are the disadvantages of a first scan so late?

Anybody have any advice, I'm feeling so let down already and this is only the beginning of the process.

Any support please?

I had a scan at about 16 weeks and couldn't have the nuchal fold test but instead I had a blood test to test for Downs. I didn't mind waiting till 16 weeks.

Hi, I was looking up info on dates for screening myself today and found this NHS website. You might it useful - here

Heathcliffscathy · 20/03/2010 22:27

between 11 and 13.5 weeks. ideally at 12.

go private if you can. fetal medicine centre in london (they developed nuchal there) is £150 i think. well worth it for peace of mind if you can afford it.

cece · 21/03/2010 21:35

sophable - yes but what if it doesn't give you peace of mind? What if you get a high risk screening?

cazzybabs · 21/03/2010 21:41

DO you want a nucal fold scan...because not all areas do them anyway...

I didn't have anyway because its not a 100% guarentee either way

If you are not having the nucal then it doesn't matter when you have it...I had my 12 scan at 16 weeks.

TBH it sounds like an error - possibly by the postal service. I wouldn't bother getting cross it doesn't do you any favours and ends up putting people's backs up. Be nice and explain why you are upset

Heathcliffscathy · 21/03/2010 21:49

cece point totally taken, but isn't that a separate issue? If she wants a nuchal scan best thing to do is fork out and go private.

of course great odds (2000 to 1 etc) don't rule out the 1 chance. but if i'm not mistaken then the OP has expressed the opinion that she wants a nuchal scan.

Fair point sophable but I think sometimes women have these tests done without really thinking it through. There is nothing worse than the phone call that says you are high risk.

BigGLittleG · 21/03/2010 23:18

Cece -- people do these tests precisely to find out whether or not they are high risk so that they can make an informed decision on how to progress with a pregnancy.

I think women and their partners think them through much more than you realise.
