We need advice on midwife / sweeps

Hi everyone...

I'm 40 weeks now with my first baby, due date was Tuesday just gone. I went to my midwife today and we discussed me having a sweep as I wanted to give myself as much time as possible to have a natural labour, and avoid being induced. Anyway...as she did the sweep it turned out that I have a 'narrow pubic arch' and she couldn't reach the cervix.
As this happened to anyone else?

At the time, this threw me into major panic as she said it may make a 'natural birth' tricky? Hadn't even given C-section a thought up until now, but maybe we need to??

Should we consider seeing another midwife...and could this be in-experience?

Would be nice to hear some positive stories from people in similar situations...

Thanks

I havnt had any experience with this but since iv been pregnant iv been a geek and read a hell of alot.
If your that worried its in-experience i would get another opinion otherwise your going to constantly think well what if it is?
Also there are many good stories out there of people with worse issues who have been told its practically impossible to have a natural vagina birth, but they still do it. "tricky" is definately possible. I would keep and open mind and look up about c-section just incase, but do know its very possibe to have a natural birth.
wish you all the best

Hello, I am not sure about a narrow pubic arch, but my MW tried to sweep me and could not find or 'reach' my very posterior cervix. I was induced at 42 weeks via prostin gel and you get 3 doses 6 hours apart, where at each one they try to find your cervix. Mine was not going to be found. I joked and told them I didn't have one.
to cut my boring story short - I ended up going into labour but then had to have an emergency c section as the baby was not descending into my pelvis. This was OK by me as my labour had been going on a few days. The exp of the c section was fine - the main thing is the baby was out safely.
Am hoping more knowledgable peops will come along, but I would say not to worry too much. Good Luck xx

Thanks for this. I spoke to another midwife who said it was practically impossible to know what my pelvis would do during labour and to stop worrying about everything.

The whole situation has forced us to consider other birth options so I've read a lot on C sections and feel loads better.
