Hi everyone,
im 28 weeks and was told at a 4d scan that i had complete placent previa. I wasn't aware of this as i hadn,t had a scan since week 14. Went back to hosp on advice from a worried gp. Saw a registrar who was very dissmissive didn't check with a mini scan or anything . said come back at 32 weeks for a scan and that was it. My hubbie asked about what precautions to take _i am a busy mum of three working as a nurse...He said none...I feel like a ticking time bomb and 5 wks seems like a long time...Help

Hi,

I was told I had a low lying placenta at 21 week scan and consultant and sonographer were both very relaxed about it and said in the majority of cases it will move up the uterus and I will be checked again at 34 weeks. The stat they gav me was in 98-99% of cases it will move. I thought it was only called placenta previa if it still hasn't moved at 34 weeks??

If it doesn't move then you may need to have an EC as the placenta is blocking the exit! In some cases if it doesn't move you can get bleeding in last few weeks and may need bed rest but I wouldn't worry about this until your scan. I was told not to do anything different but if I had any bleeding at all then call MW or labour ward straight away. It may also help to find out if it is low lying or completly covering the cervix as just low lying is more likely to move.

To put your mind at rest though I would recommend a call to your MW.

Good luck

Hi, same as hippo I was told at my 20 week scan I had slight placenta pravia, so the edge of the placenta was just touching the cervix so more low lying than covering, but again sonographer and mw didnt seem too concerned and both said majority of cases they move up with the growing uterus.

I am to be scanned again at 36 weeks to see if that has happened.
If it doesnt move up they will plan a cs for you, she said bleeding can occur and to tell mw if this happens but again this doesnt happen in many cases.

Good luck I wish you all the best

Hello,
I also had partial placenta previa diagnosed at anomaly scan and have just been rescanned at 35 weeks. Although the majority move up mine hasn't done and i am booked in for cs at 39 weeks.
The only precautions they mentioned was if i start bleeding or start labour to go straight to delivery ward for cs. They didn't mention bed rest or taking it easy at all (i have a two year old so that would be impossible anyway!)

I got told at 20 weeks my placenta was 'a bit low'. I was not restricted for anything, I continued swimming, yoga, teaching (including PE!) and everything! By 36 weeks it was diagnosed as a Grade 3 (partial covering). I didn't bleed at all but went in at 37 weeks for bedrest ( I think it was just to make sure I didn't go into labour) and had a section at 38 weeks. My placenta was behind the baby which made it a very straightforward operation.

I'm sure everything will be fine, good luck!
