Hello
I'm a newbie, I'm now 13 weeks pregant and I've become so aware of what I'm eating (good stuff, but lots of it!). But also what I put on my skin.It doesn't feel right to be spraying myself with anti-perspirant and I've already stopped the fake tanning creams.
Can anyone recommend a good deodorant with none of the nasties, and one that smells fresh and nice?
I can remember a magazine article about natural deodorants with essential oils but I can't remember the name. Can anyone help?

Hi,

Yes know exactly how you feel. I actually dramatically cut down on all chemical nasties in my face and body lotions and potions prior to getting pregnant and changes all household products to Ecover as thought it may have been one of the factors affecting mine and DH fertility.

Apart from the odd thing (make-up that I only wear occassionally) and also when I run out of things I avoid any beauty products with parabens in particular and anything with very chemical sounding ingredients. This means avoiding the majority of high st brands. They put so many chemicals in it to increase shelf life and also fake perfumes ect.

I shop at Neals Yard, Organic Pharmacy, some brands from Holland and Barret and have also used this website www.iamnatural.co.uk

My feeling is if you have to prioritise then chose paraben and chemical free products on items that are absorbed into skin (i.e. body cream rather than shampoo). Good luck, it is a little bit more expensive but I personally think it is worth it and think the products are just as good if not better.

Thanks for the tip! I'm glad I'm not the only one! So much gets absorbed into our bodies doesn't it that it's really worth using pure and natural stuff don't you think?. I shall try Neals Yard and the website you suggested. Still trying to remember the deodorant in the magazine - it had such a good review!

Anyway, I'm going to enjoy buying some nice things for myself now...us pregnant women have to make to most of this time! x

Lush do some nice solid deodorants made from things like chickpea flour that work pretty well but do be careful with essential oils - some of them are proven to be harmful to the foetus and all have had much less testing than manmade products.

I am the same and absolutley love Dr Hauschka's floral deoderant. It smells devine and is good for your skin too.

There are lots on the market - perhaps go to your local health food store? Thats how i originally found my way when "converting"!
