7+3 at the moment and putting on weight but I'm not kidding myself that it's anything other than good ol' fat!

When can I start blaming it on the baby?

Daynee, you might want to note the difference between taking a piss and taking the piss.

MummyBeth · 16/03/2010 13:53

I'm only 10 weeks with my 1st and can't fit into anything anymore - I was always a 6/8 but since the morning / all day nausea hit I have been eating all the wrong foods and loads of it! This baby seems to love salty crisps and sugary tea (decaf of course!). I'm blaming the change in diet rather than the baby!

AshleyFanjo · 16/03/2010 14:15

I was about 6 months before I looked pregnant. Before that I just looked like I had eaten a big dinner and was a bit bloated.

I was very pleased when I started to show a bump - especially when I would be offered a seat on public transport (most of the time).

oopsandbabycoconut · 16/03/2010 14:16

I went on maternity leave at 36 weeks and some people still hadn't noticed. I bought my first maternity stuff at 30weeks.

Daynee · 16/03/2010 15:22

OOPS - taking the piss...hee hee.

bloomingbex · 16/03/2010 16:15

I'm currently 10 weeks with my first and am already having to wear maternity trousers. I'm normally a comfortable size 12 with a bit of a podge but in the last couple of weeks my tummy has really started to pop out. I'm sure most of it is just bloating at the moment but I've noticed people in the office are openly staring as I walk past now (I'm not telling them my news until I've has my scan in 2 weeks)

I spent a week walking around wearing long tops with my trousers undone but then even that got tight so I had to succumb to maternity trousers and jeans which I just wynch in tight smile

bloomingbex · 16/03/2010 16:18

Meant to say, I've put on 6lbs which will go some way to explaining why the clothes are tight and have gone up 2 bra sizes already.

Daynee · 16/03/2010 16:55

blooming - 2 bra sizes already? I wish...I'm a size A, and although I've grown bigger, I'm just barely a B now. I'm wondering...have any ladies with tiny ones gotten big ones?? And if so...how long did they last after the pregnancy?

kawaiiko · 16/03/2010 18:39

Thanks for all the responses - there really is a huge variety!

I was eating low-carb prior to conceiving and up to about 5 weeks and had fully intended to carry on eating this way, but that all went to hell when the all-day nausea set in! Since then it's been carbs a go-go...can't even bear the thought of meat.

I'm basically bloated and have a tummy at the best of times (size 14-16) so I'm just getting fatter

I'm a first-timer, size 12 pre preg.

My trousers were getting pretty tight by 10 weeks - I didn't let myself buy any mat trousers until after my scan at 10+5 (thought until then I was 11+5). I started to get a proper little bump at about 14-15 weeks. I have only been needing maternity tops for the last week or so (now 21 weeks). I have a proper bump now, it sticks out further than my boobs! I don't think you could think it was just fat any more, but that's probably only been the case for a couple of weeks.

amyboo · 17/03/2010 07:17

I think it varies massively. I was in maternity stuff at around 16 weeks, but I have a friend who's nearly 20 weeks and still isn't really showing...

truthisinthewine · 17/03/2010 07:33

About 20 weeks but I could still cover it up fairly easily.

MrsC2010 · 17/03/2010 10:17

I noticed that my waist had thickened from around 12 wks, my work trousers were getting uncomfortable.

But in terms of an actual bump, it was around 17 wks I think. Until then I wasn't sure if it was just my belly! It started feeling harder then and taking shape. Am 20 wks now and look properly pregnant, the husband thinks I look bigger every day which doesn't bode well for the next 20 wks!

bloomingbex · 17/03/2010 10:25

Yep Daynee, I'm afraid I've gone from an E to a G!! I wonder if my belly will ever poke out further than my boobs

Sheltun · 20/03/2010 23:04

I was showing at 10 weeks. I'm a size 8 so I guess that's why.

pipinmybelly · 20/03/2010 23:34

my boobs have also gone up 2 cup sizes!!

im 21 weeks and only now starting to look pregnant...belly is hard, and looks like a bump but up until now iv just looked fat and was only a 10-12 pre-pregnancy.

it really does vary coz my friend who is same size as me starting off was much bigger than i am now at 16 weeks...she is now measuring 2 weeks ahead of her dates but her dates are spot on so i guess it all depends on how big the baby is, how much water ur carrying etc!!

Petsville · 21/03/2010 15:43

Depends a bit what you mean by "showing" - I'm 19 weeks now and have a bump that's obvious to me (and shows a bit if I wear a fitted top), but I can still get into my normal jeans / work suits (though I can't do the jackets up because my chest's expanded so much) and as far as I know no-one's spotted anything. Having said that, I've gone up 4 cup sizes so the boobs are definitely sticking out a lot further than the bump still, which probably helps with concealment. (I was a smallish size 8 pre-pregnancy, so I'm not sure it's pre-pregnancy size that makes the difference.)

Bumpless · 21/03/2010 21:51

I'm only 5 weeks, no nausea or bigger (.)(.) and despite losing my appetite I gained 3 lb this week. Doesn't bode at all well for next 9 months - they'll be knocking the side of the house down to get me out...

nikkisbump · 30/03/2010 20:31

I'm 27 weeks and although I've been teetering on the edge of looking pregnant for about 5 weeks I finnnnally look pregnant now! Yay. I was so pleased when a lady in the shop who was also pregnant had a being pregnant conversation with me! Ran all the way home to OH to report back! He thought I had gone mad...

Lizwah · 31/03/2010 14:02

I'm 13+5 and have to say my normal work trousers started to feel to snug around week 9/10. My usual jeans still do up, but they're going underneath the belly now! I started to wear adjustable maternity trousers on their smallest setting week 11.

I am a size 16 so already fairly squishy in places (I to say prefer curvy!) and my husband thinks that my belly is just additional podgyness rather than bump. I'm not sure.

I was thinking maybe the increased size of my tummy might be because baby + uterus etc might be taking up room on the inside that used to have the fat in and that might be why i'm sticking out more.

Or am i just making this all up to make myself feel better?

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 31/03/2010 14:50

I'm 15+3 today (5'11" and usually size 12) and DH and I can see a bump, although it could be the effects of bloating plus a change in shape rather than an increase. I'm in ordinary clothes but my jeans are starting to be uncomfortable so I'm avoiding them and starting to look for more roomy clothes to tide me over/to wear when coming down the other side!

I had (unrealistic) expectations of not showing until closer to 20 weeks. But I suppose it's quite reassuring.

Do non-first-timers feel showing earlier means you get bigger and bigger, or does it even out in the end? I'm also comforting myself with the (possibly deluded) thought that slow steady growth means less chance of the dreaded stretchmarks.

vix206 · 31/03/2010 21:06

I started showing at around 15 weeks, I'm 20 weeks now and look very pregnant!
