hey there ladies
3 weeks ago i found out i was pregnant and very soon after i felt a horrible one sided pain, very faint also. worried my pregnancy was ectopic i took myself to the gp who then sent me off to the hospital for scan etc.
at the hospital i had a blood test and internal probe and internal hand examinations. the doctors couldnt see anything at all and asked to see me again in 48hrs for another blood test to see if hcg levels were rising properly and also in 1 week for another internal scan. my blood test results went up loads, brilliant, but when i went back to epau there was a pregnancy sack with no fetus (really pleased to hear it not ectopic). im quite calm about it as i knew it was possible that we would see nothing. i was 6+2 then. the doctor wanted to see me again at 8 weeks (appointment tommorrow). that day i had another blood test and results came back that hcg levels were increasing properly. i was told at that last appointment that they should definitely see a fetus at 8 weeks and if they dont, and i havent bled yet then its a missed miscarriage and i could take something to bring on a bleed.
this evening i have looked on internet to see example 8 week scan pics to see if i could get an idea of what i could expect to see tommorow but while i was doing that i came across a forum where some women were saying they didnt see anything for much longer than 8 weeks. is this 'normal'? SHOULD i be seeing something tommorrow?
please help!

my (bad) experience of this is a sac but no fetus at 6 weeks, 7 weeks and 8 weeks with blood doubling as they should.
Plus Very strong pregnancy symptoms.
This is known as a blighted ovum.
Resulting in mc.
I was told that a fetus should be visible with internal scan after 6 weeks.
There nevr was with me.

Good luck for tomorrow, i hope that all is well for you.

Hi, sorry to hear about things being a bit worrying for you. You should definately see something tomorrow at 8 weeks including a heartbeat. The sonographer will magnify it all so that you should be able to see it. The only way that women on other forums wouldnt see anything by 8 weeks would be if they had gotten their dates wrong and were less weeks pg than they thought they were. I would say that The fact that your hcg was increasing the way it should is a great sign.

I am pretty spot on give or take 2 or 3 days with regards to conception dates so when i had some side pain at 5 weeks 4 days i went along for a scan (privately paid for) to check everything was where is should be and she dated me at 5 weeks 5 days and i saw a fetal pole and heartbeat as well. That is pretty rare i think (from what i have read about others experiences on m'net) but certainly you should be expecting to see a fetus and hb if indeed you are 8 weeks.

Hope it all works out for you, i have had two mmc's but 4 successful pgs, like i said i think the fact that your hcg was rising like it should have been and is an excellent sign. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and wishing you luck - let us know how you get on ok?

I had a dating scan at 5w2d and the report said that there was a yolk sac present, but no heart beat demonstrated. So Rosieposey seeing a heart beat that soon was, I think, very rare and special!

I had another a week later and there was a little heart beat! They asked me back 2 weeks later to double check my dates and it looked like a wee bubba! VERY surprised how detailed it looked!

I hope that all is well, and be thinking of you tomorrow! Good luck and let us know how you go!! xxxxx

Hiya, just wanted to wish you luck tomorrow! Like rosie posie said, I believe the only way that there would not be a foetus at 8w is if a woman had a really long cycle, so may have actually conceived later than her dates would suggest.

They may also have seen less if a vaginal scan wasn't available.

The important thing with your situation is that they already saw what was there 2 weeks ago, so will know exactly what they should see tomorrow. It is the growing time between your two scans that's important, not what you should or shouldn't see at 8w, as not everyone has regular cycles, or knows their dates.

Very best of luck. X

Hooray!!!! many congratulations to you. See you were just a bit earlier than you thought you were thats all. So glad that its all worked out for you and good luck with the next 7.5 months (or so)

Wonderful news!

I had almost identical to you (pain in side very early on, transvaginal scan which was inconclusive, another scan at 8 weeks with everything as it should be). The sonongrapher mentioned something about a corpus luteum in connection with the pain in the side, but I'm afraid I didn't really take in exactly what he meant.

Anyway, many congrats on your pg. The result of my pg is currently out at ballet class!

pinchmeimustbedreaming · 15/03/2010 18:25

thank you again, the sonographer said the pain was because i had a little fluid on my pelvis probably likely to be due to a leaking cyst at some point. said it was nothing to worry about though
