Would you go to a drumming workshop at 25 wks?

I love drumming and haven't done it for a long time. There is a workshop coming locally next week and it's a rare opportunity here! So I don't have to travel far. I just worried about the loudness from the drumming. I asked the organiser... and of course they say 'it's my decision'... I'm not good with making a decision at the moment! Anyone else has been anywhere loud and being 25 weeks pregnant? I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

I went to a party where a loud band was playing live at around 30 weeks. I remember DS2 jumping a lot, I would say he was startled by the loud noise. Having said that I honestly don't think it did him any lasting harm, they are quite well insulated in there really!

Hmm, well I went to see the Pixies live last night and they were LOUD and I'm 21 wks pg.

I went to a loud ceilidh dance (I sat the really fast and furious ones out!) at 35 weeks, dd did thrash about a lot with the music but I'm sure the stimulation just makes a few more neural connections!

I'd go and enjoy it

I wouldn't go to a 'drumming workshop' in any condition.

Sounds hideous.

I used to go to a drumming group weekly before I got pregnant. (I stopped because I was too knackered to commit to the once weekly practices). There was a lassie there who pretty much drummed until the last minute.

I'm surprised she could still see the drum under the bump - so should be fine.

I'd reckon that being immersed in amniotic fluid behind a couple of layers of body tissue is as effective as earplugs...

I went nightclubbing around London as it was New Years Eve 2 weeks before my baby was born....he loved it and is very musical still !

Lovethesea · 14/03/2010 12:40

I think the odd session of loudness is fine in pregnancy - it's regular very loud noises they think might be bad for babies. They are very insulated in there and I just get kicked a lot more when there is louder music on around me.

Enjoy!

I go to an African drumming group
I like to think my DD might've got a lot out of hearing all the rhythms from the womb.
She's got good rhythm now too, so maybe.

I don't think it would hurt the baby at all. But I went out the other night at 39 weeks to a really loud restaurant and baby was going crazy pretty much the whole time I was there (presumably because of the noise), so be prepared to be kicked around a bit.

I don't see any reason not to go tbh.

It sounds fun!

ninedragons · 14/03/2010 12:55

I went to the Formula 1 (which is astoundingly, screamingly loud) when I was about that far along.

D foetus jumped around but is fine.

ToccataAndFudge · 14/03/2010 12:56

ermm - why not?

I went to watch the Edinburgh Tattoo when I was 8 months pg with DS1 - he jumped a bit - but he's fine

ninedragons · 14/03/2010 12:56

Fine as in healthy, happy two-year old, I should have said. I'm not telling you this from the wise perspective of 30 weeks or anything.

ToccataAndFudge · 14/03/2010 12:57

oh yes - just reading last post - my "fine" DS1 is now 9yrs old

BranflakeGirl · 14/03/2010 13:59

Apparently, if you want to get an idea of what noises sound like to your baby dunk your head under water in the bath while listening to something!

If you're worried play a drumming track loudly while submerged in the bath! Lol!!

DilysPrice · 14/03/2010 14:04

I went to see The Polyphonic Spree when preg w/ DD, and they were astonishingly noisy, so I checked up in books the next day, and they all said that extreme noise causes no specific risk to the baby (unless it's loud enough to actually hurt the mother rather than deafen her I guess).
