Is there such a thing as a 'no warning' pregnancy?

This is probably a stupid question but...

I've read quite a lot on here about people's earliest pregnancy symptoms and people pretty much seem to have been fairly sure they were up the duff before they closeted themselves in the bathroom for some alone time with a plastic stick. So I was just wondering if there's anyone about who didn't have any symptoms at all before a missed period but subsequently discovered they were pregnant?

(AF is a day late. I feel utterly normal - except for a flapjack fixation but even that isn't totally out of character - and have a pregnancy test sitting on the desk next to me. I could just go and use it, but then in all likelihood it would just be a waste of money and speculation is soooo much more interesting. )

no clues here early on
test!

weegiemum · 12/03/2010 20:57

I was 10-11 weeks - ish when I found out with dd2 - had been nauseous a bit but put it down to the tummy bug the whole family had suffered and thought I had maybe picked it up more than once.

It was all probably masked by the fact that I had a mirena coil that was supposed to be working - not my fault that it had dropped into my cervix and wasn't in the right place any more!!

I wasn't expecting to be pregnant, so the thought of it never crossed my mind.

It seemed like a very short pregnancy to me!

liahgen66 · 12/03/2010 20:59

do you think she is poas as we ruminate over the predicament?

Lindy · 12/03/2010 21:00

I didn't realise I was pregnant until I was at least seven/eight weeks .......... I wasn't actively trying to get pregnant, but not using contraception; my periods were never regular and I have never been one of those people who kept a 'diary'. At my age I thought it was the start of the menopause....

Armi · 12/03/2010 21:01

Moves stick further away I'm not doing it til tomorrow, you nosey devils! This isn't Eastenders, you know!

you are no fun armi bringing us in on the fun, then not playing.

darcymum · 12/03/2010 21:06

My aunt had no symptoms at all, she went to the doctor with stomach pains and was told she was eight months pregnant. She gave birth three days later to a healthy girl.

She had had a monthly bleed a bit lighter than normal though. She had three other children and was a nurse.

SecretSlattern · 12/03/2010 21:09

@ darcymum

stepfordmum · 12/03/2010 21:12

I found out about six or seven weeks in as I was convinced I wasn't (first month of trying), even had what I thought at the time were period pains.

nancy75 · 12/03/2010 21:14

my friend found out when rushed to hospital, baby was born that day - she says she had no symptons either

BalloonSlayer · 12/03/2010 21:17

A bit tame compared to the others but DC3 was an "accident" and it suddenly occurred to me that my period was a bit late.

I looked at myself in the mirror and thought my boobs looked a bit more veiny than usual. Waited a few days and did test to reassure myself I was not pg .

Quite different from previous 5 pregnancies (only 2 prev DCs: 3 m/cs, sadly) where I had stewed over every symptom or imagined symptom from conception onward.

Good luck!

Armi · 12/03/2010 21:19

See, now, stepfordmum...I've been having 'period pains' for a few days. Rattles nails on desk in thoughtful manner

Darcymum - that sort of thing terrifies me. Imagine thinking your tummy was a carefully cultivated red-wine-and-flapjacks tummy when really it was a stonking great baby you hadn't noticed you were growing!

liahgen66 - it's true. I'm no fun at all. It must be PMT. Or is it...?

I shall be worn to a frazzle at this rate.

nancy I always think that's a shame - you'd think if you got out of morning sickness, fatness and heartburn you'd also not have dreadful labour pains, wouldn't you?

Although, to wake up and find a baby in the bed, like a sort of happy version of The Godfather would be weird too.

PatTheHammer · 12/03/2010 21:29

Armi, I hate to be the beare of bad (or maybe good!) news but with both DD and DS bad period pains but with the absence of the actual period was the first and only sign i had for my pregnancies.

Never did sickness or sore boobs or owt. Then few weeks later the extreme wall of tiredness that lasted for the entire first trimester. But I suppose no other symptoms over than a massive bump!

How small must these 'surprise' babies have carried??? Did they not Kick???

rosieposey · 12/03/2010 21:40

Armi like Pat said, in every one of my pg's i had bad period pains so much so that i was running to the loo all of the time as i thought that AF was here. I did get sore boobs with DS (no4) but that was unusual as never got MS or tired till later on either.

Minshu · 12/03/2010 21:42

I just felt normally pre-menstrual. Was ttc, so alleviated disappointment with booze and found out a week later, when af never did turn up...

foreverastudent · 12/03/2010 21:44

My Mum was a midwife and didn't find out /realise she was pregnant with me until she was 24 weeks!

stepfordmum · 12/03/2010 22:09

Didn't mention my boobs were massive, but again just thought that was period related! A couple of weeks after finding out came horrendous sickness which lasted whole pregnancy, so guess that might have given it away if hadn't followed what I thought was dh's pointless advice to do a test!

carrielou2007 · 12/03/2010 22:13

Another one here for both dc did not find out until tested for dd at almost 8 weeks and ds at 7 weeks when realised no AF. Kept going to loo convinced tummy ache was it's arrival but no. No ms, sore boobs though did have massively sensitive sense of smell and v v tired. Felt exactly the same with both and both were all bump/out front.

Test test test!!!
