Good luck with the induction.
I was induced at 38 weeks as baby had stopped growing properly and my blood pressure was high. I didn't go well (although plenty do), it was very long (6 days) and I failed to get passed 1cm or into labour so ended up with an emergency C-section. On the plus side I had no pain from it!
I wasn't going to post as I am sure you would rather hear of positive stories (and hopefully people will post with them)but I wished I had know how long it could take and that it still might not work. That although the guidelines state you should have prostin gel every 6-8 hours you might be seen every 12-18 hours instead and that was a top priority medical induction, the poor women opposite me (who was simply being induced for being overdue) had to wait 36 hours between her 1st and 2nd dose. I might had had more patience and been less stressed by the whole affair (the endless waiting for the next dose) if I had realised what it was going to entail.
I thought I would go in and have a baby within a couple of days, I had no idea they could take a week and wasn't prepared to still end up with a c-section without ever having got into labour, particularly as I was "favourable" for an induction.
Labour ward was very busy but I did get the impression that that wasn't particularly unusual.
I also didn't realise that until they broke my waters (which happened on day 6) that I would be on an antenatal ward with 3 other women and my DH would not be able to stay with me outside visiting hours. That for me was the hardest bit plus the fact that my blood pressure was sky high so they wouldn't let me off the ward and kept checking it every 2 hours day and night so I was knackered. It was a very strange experience, 4 women on a ward, 2 were fighting to keep their babies in and 2 were fighting to get them out.
However, I want to stress that this was just my experience of the hospital I went to, I am sure many hospitals do a better job! You might be lucky and get a less busy labour ward and/or a private room. The lady with the on-going induction (might have been Joy) on the channel 4 programme One Born Every Minute had a private room, it even had a reclining chair so her DH could stay with her, now that would have been fab.
Despite my bad experience (I did have a wonderful c-section but then my DS ended up in the NICU for a week) I would do it all again if I had to, so it is worth it for the moment you hold your perfect baby! Oh, and it hasn't put me off having another one, a year later and I'm pg again
