Hi, probably is a stupid question, just something playing on my mind.
I am 32 weeks pregnant and this baby does not seem to jump or make any movements to loud noises. I have been pregnant 4 times before and remember the others doing this.
am now worrying that baby is deaf, how can I find out if she can respond to noise

I dont think that you can in utero so you will probably have to wait until she is born i would say. Please dont worry anyway, every baby is different - i dont remember DS jumping at noises at all and i had his three sisters before him and i dont think they did either, it just never occourred to me. Good luck for the rest of your pg.

thanks Rosie, I have generally worried more this time, probably just age. maybe some don't jump I guess. especially if they are used to noisy house.

I worried alot with DS as hadnt been pg for 11 years and am a bit old so you definately have my sympathy about that ... Can honestly say i didnt notice any of them jumping though - maybe they did but i didnt notice and like you said if you are in a generally noisy environment its likely that lo will be used to it

Pinkstuff, I know it's hard, but I'd say try not to worry. I'm told the more pregnancies you have the less easy it is to feel small movements anyway (reduced muscle tone!), so if the baby is quite laid back you might not feel a slight twitch.

If it's any consolation, you're not alone - this is my 3rd pregnancy and both my older boys would jump if I was in the bath and made a noise under water (underwater sound gets transmitted better through amniotic fluid so I think it sounds much louder to fetal ears) but this one doesn't. Which is making me a bit paranoid - I have been diagnosed with a primary infection of CMV which is apparently the most common cause of congenital deafness in western babies - but the consultants tell me there is no way they can tell from a sonogram if there is the sort of damage that might be causing a problem. So I guess you and I are just going to have to wait...

Pinkstuff - I'm 36 weeks with my second and I've been worrying about this too. I've done some internet searching and it sounds quite common. I also asked my consultant yesterday, although I was a bit embarrassed to because I thought he might think I'm crazy and he assured me it is no indication of any problems down the road. He said some babies were just more 'laid-back'

Neither of mine have moved for loud noises and DS's hearing is just fine (if selective).

They do go a bit mental if I sneeze though.

I'm 30 weeks and LO doesn't jump at loud noises either and though I've tried to push it to the back of my mind, it does worry me, so I'm glad I'm not alone and sure all our babies will be fine
