I want to moan please! I was only saying last week how I didn't feel pregnant at all, this week I can barely breathe for wanting to throw up. What can I do? Ginger biscuits are too sweet, ginger tea is revolting and dry toast makes me gag. Would anyone recommend travel sickness bands? I can wear them at home, but they might give something away at work. Any other ideas?

It's not confined to morning either, it's more like "most of the day sickness"

Sympathy. See previous threads on this subject. Things that helped me:-

  • Sucking a hard sweet with a mild flavour like butterscotch.

  • Sipping ice cold water or sucking ice cubes.

  • Making myself eat something

  • Most things were easier to get down if chilled, even bananas, I think because it suppresses the smell.

  • Long baths (immersing myself at the swimming pool helped at first but later on I couldn't cope with the chemical smell).

  • Sleeps.

Throwing up didn't help at all.

Don't know if the acupressure band helped because I was too scared to take it off just in case.

Hi

Reflexology has stopped my MS (went first time at 5 months last time still sick as a dog). Friends also swear by acupuncture and cranial massage.

Bibitwo, ginger ALE not the Beer!!!! there is a slight difference!!!! argh! anyway, I really hope some of the suggestions here work for you,as its not nice feeling really sick all the time {{Hugs}}

munz · 22/07/2005 09:42

ginger beers working for me in short term measures. (only sips and for about 10 mins at a time,) chedders also worked for me and dry busicuts do as well.

monalisa · 22/07/2005 11:16

Firstly, don't get over tired if you can help it - I always found that made me feel even worse.
Travel sickness bands (they sell them in Boots), small sips of water - if you can bear the taste, ginger cordial worked for me with one of my pregnancies, a plain biscuit b4 you get out of bed at all. Nibbling on plain ricecakes throughout the day and generally trying to eat little and often, even thought you don't want to.
With my first I got into the habit of carrying crackers with me everywhere - and a plastic bag in my bag incase I needed to throw up, which was awful becasue I had to visit people's houses and even court and council offices as part of my job at the time! (BTW I never used it)
It was often said to me that sickness was a sign that the baby was well implanted in the womb, so that has to be good.
I had tablets for sickness with my third, have to say I tried hard not to take them but I did in the end and yes - they made life more bearable.
Hope you feel better soon. I know it's miserable but it will all be worth it in the end. Take care.

munz · 22/07/2005 11:18

what sort of crackers did u use mag?

it's reassuring thou that sickness means the bean's well implanted.

monalisa · 22/07/2005 11:19

Oh yes - a really daft suggestion that I forgot. Someone else mentioned smells. I actually discovered my body spray was making me feel worse too. It just didn't dawn on me straight away!

daisy20 · 22/07/2005 11:36

Mine is all day too.

I put my blue bands on about an hour ago and there has been a very slight diference, also my Morningwell cd just arrived which gives me some hope! It would be a lot easier if it were winter then we could hide our bands under our jumpers, but I just got to the stage when I had to try something other than ginger biscuits.

Ginger cordial from Holland and Barrett is actually quite nice when very well diluted and really soothing with hot water. Camomile tea with a tiny bit of suger/honey to sweeten it is nice too and so is just slightly sweetened plain hot water if you can't stand any flavour at all.

I carry a plastic bag everywhere too!!

BibiTwo, I'll let you know how the cd goes as you could just listen to that at your desk. I read yesterday that a cough or two can relieve it so I'm going to experiment with that today.

Has anyone tried the anti histamine treatment?

BibiTwo · 22/07/2005 14:24

I think you've hit onto something with the tiredness. I went to bed at least an hour earlier these last two night and the nausea hasn't been as bad during the days. It's still there but there has been no actual vomit. Also eating little things constantly is helping when i feel like i can swallow them.
Sorry to hear there are so many other suffering along with me!

Almost threw up in asda today, just spent 2 hours in bed trying not to be sick, keep trying to tell my self it will all be worth it in the end, havnt managed to eat more than half a piece of toast, cant stand the smell of ginger so i cant try that, hope we all feel beter soon.

daisy20 · 22/07/2005 15:15

Its early days but I bought myself a pair of baby socks with bears and when I'm feeling really sick I put my hand in my handbag and give them a stroke! mad I know but it reminds me why I'm doing this!

suzi2 · 22/07/2005 22:41

One of the few things I could stomach was mashed potato - Aunt Bessies frozen stuff was very convenient. Or a boiled sweet when the nausea first hit.

Hope it passes soon.

BibiTwo · 25/07/2005 13:40

I'm having waves of nausea right now at my desk and they are so bad I keep thinking I'm going to chuck up right in my bin! I'm boiling hot and have a fan blowing in my face to try and keep me cool, I feel terrible! Someone help me! There must be a miracel cure out there somewhere!

  • not envious (except of non-nauseous people), meant to be green as in i'm going to hurl.

There is a cassette that you can get from the NCT called Morning Well which you listen to with headphones on which is supposed to help. I think it did but then you don't know how you would feel if you hadn't listened to it, if you see what I mean. It could just be having a lie down and a rest whilst you are listening to it does the job. Either way it is worth a try. Also ice cold water helped although I know some people who couldn't tolerate the cold. Extra strong mints helped too - took the nasty taste from my mouth and peppermint is supposed to settle your stomach. Polo's were too sweet. It had to be a mint to blow your head off or it didn't work! Hope it all passes soon.

Fresh food revelation for coping at work!

After several weeks of ginger biscuits, crackers and fizzy drinks I started to feel not only nauseaous from pregnancy but also from eating too much crappy food. Yesterday I started a new snacking plan and I still feel nauseaus but in a much 'fresher' way if you know what I mean.

I'm snacking on lovely m & s grapes, thin slices of pear and thin carrot battons, and sipping hot water with a slice of lemon, a few small chunks of fresh ginger and half a teas spoon of honey - you can say you're on a de-tox programme if anyone asks!

The grape works a bit like having a boiled sweet but it feels better eating it. Then when travelling I've found half a stick of gum or a small square of gum stems it off till I get home. Yoga style deep breathing and relaxation eases it slightly too.

Tried the Morning Well cd and it didn't do anything for me Also tried those sea sickness bands and they didn't do much either although I can't take them off just in case.

Read this morning about something called a reliefband, I haven't found it in the uk yet but the book was raving about it!!

www.drugstore.com/qxp77705_333181_sespider/relief_band/morning_sickness_relief_device.htm

I was scouring every book I could find in Waterstones for information on morning sickness cures!
