When do I need to buy one? I'm almost 6 weeks and boobs haven't grown any (yet?!) but I do know that bras with bones in them can damage milk ducts...so when do I stop wearing my normal bras and buy mat ones?

underwired bras only cause a problem if they are poorly fitting

As EldonAve says, any bra, wired or non-wired, can cause damage to breast tissue if badly fitted.
Make sure you get properly FITTED, not just measured throughout your pregnancy. A proper fitter doesn't need a tape-measurer, and will always check the fit of each bra you try. In the same way that size and fit of clothing varies from shop to shop and brand to brand, so will sizing for bras. A lot depends on the make, shape, cut and fabric. Happy shopping!

Some people's boobs do grow in pregnancy, I'm at the end of my third pregnancy and mine never grow, only when the milk comes in a few days after birth but then that gets gussled up pretty quickly, my chest size only really changes if i put on body fat in general.
Bras;
Just make sure they're well fitted, no elastic diggin into any breast tissue.
Underwires are a no no too apparently.

I think maternity bras give absolutely no support.

underwires are fine provided they fit

nellymoo · 07/03/2010 19:18

In fact, if you have a larger bust, you will most definately be better supported with a wired, well fitting bra than a non wired one. You can buy wired nursing bras, which are also fine so long as they fit.

Thanks for advice guys....so any suggestions as to best place to get measured and fitted?

Independent lingerie shops in my opinion. They tend to know their stock better, and will be more keen to make sure you're happy. In my experience, steer clear or Mothercare and M&S unless you are happy to fit yourself. Once you know what you're looking for, it's pretty simple to do so.

I am 5 weeks pregnant and already starting to swell. I'll be heading to bravissimo next weekend for a refit. I will also be sticking with underwired bras for the forseeable future, as long as it fits well and the wires don't dig in, there should be no problem.

tanmu82 · 07/03/2010 21:56

lol, I'm not blessed enough for Bravissimo, which is a shame because my best friend shops there and they have a beautiful range and great customer service.

We have an independent shop in town, I'm gonna head over there in a few weeks....
