Initial baby movements - how regular should they be?

I'm 15+6 wks pregnant with my second and although I thought I felt movement a few days ago (could have been wind I guess)I haven't had any since then. Is this normal at first to go days between feeling any movement?

I felt my first at about 18/19wks and I can't remember how regular it was in the early days. And also the movement were more definite and unmistakable from the very beginning as baby movements rather than the little flutters and soft jabs that I've been feeling with this one.

Thanks!

I think that's totally normal. With my ds I felt him move for the first time around 20 weeks and then nothing for a couple of weeks afterwards. I was getting very panicky but it all turned out well in the end and he hasn't stopped bouncing around since (now 7 months).

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thanks trianera. I guess i'm feeling a bit anxious about this pregnancy cos I've been under a lot of stress with having to look after a toddler as he's been ill recently and I've been ill too, so I'm anxiously waiting for some definite movement so I know that this bubba is OK.

Choceyes,

I think my consultant summed it up perfectly:

Most women feel movements by about 20 weeks but they are not necessarily regular and not necessarily daily. By 24 weeks, a woman should be feeling daily movements although they are not always regular. By 28 weeks a woman should be feeling daily, regular movements where some sort of pattern can be established.

At your stage the movements will still be quite erratic as the baby is still very small and has plenty of places to play hide and seek!

I needlessly panicked in the early stages when I didn't feel regular movements but this is entirely normal.

I hope that helps and best of luck!

Hi choceyes! I too panicked earlier about not feeling movement regularly, but after going for my 20 weeks scan (I hadn't felt movement for about a day) we discovered that he had his back facing up the way so wasn't in a position where I'd feel him very well. The sonographer also said that in the early days it's all about the positioning of the baby, so although the baby is probably oving, you just can't feel it.

Hope that helps

At 16 weeks I think I felt my first movement. Then nothing for a few days, then every couple of days. Now at 19 weeks it's definate kicks/wriggling around periods 4 or five times a day. This is dc3

Thanks!

I've felt a few tickles/bubbles this morning so I'm a bit relieved now.
