Packing hospital bag - what should I wash the baby clothes with?

I'm struggling to find information on what is best to use, or is it best just to put all the clothes through the washing machine with no washing powder so they don't end up covered in chemicals?

I used fairy non-bio.

Fairy is nice. And Persil non-bio.

Use less powder than recommended and if your machine has the function do an extra rinse too.

Thanks - I've also only just noticed the washing persil non bio powder ads in the margin of the screen. Advertising obviously doesn't work on me!

hehe, is this your first baby?

For DS1 I made sure to use all the special baby stuff and wash it separately.

For this bubba, it has been thrown in the general wash!

Surcare is a good one too. I use that for DS as he has eczema and sensitive skin. Set machine for extra rinse too.

I second Surcare...my DS reacted to all the mainstream washing powders.

When the babe arrives you may want to add a bit of Napisan to the particularly dirty washes!!!

I use ecover but every so often things get a hot wash in biological, then washed in ecover again because it isn't great for really dirty things like exploded nappies but totally fine for most washing. Last time I err... washed everything with Napisan too, no idea what is like skin wise though but my lot were fine and we are a bunch of sensitive skin sorts

asparagusaddict · 04/03/2010 13:44

Nappy explosions? Oh my god!! I hadn't factored that in at all.

Might try the persil non - bio since it is being advertised so enthusiastically all over mumsnet and with an extra rinse. Thanks for the tips!

Pretty much any non-bio should be found. I quite liked the ones you get in tubs at Waitrose. I can't remember the name but they have one which is white and one which is black and they are non-bio and bio respectively, I think. The advantage of those is that they're just tabs so I don't have to measure anything out etc but we'll just pretty much use any reasonably priced non-bio.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker Seeing as Napisan is intended for nappies which are right next to pretty much the most sensitive skin of all I can't imagine that it would be problematic!!

hahahahaha....wait until you have one of the full bed/baby experiences.

The sort that happen at 3am and involve a full strip of bedding and bathing baby to get poo out of hair. The joys of motherhood .

Sometimes they like to throw up just as you get everything clean and lovely again as well...
