Anyone had success with getting their LO to turn head down using exercises?

Hi there

I'm wondering if these spinning babies type exercises actually work before I start hanging off the sofa!

In a nutshell, I'm almost 37 wks with DC2 and she is (and has always been) lying diagonally across me. Saw mw last week who said that if she hasn't shifted by my next appt next week, then I'll be admitted to hosp for obs, because if my waters were to break with LO in this position, it is very dangerous and the cord could prolapse.

So, I now have a week in which to try and get her to turn, although feels like there is hardly any room in there to wriggle a toe, never mind turn right around!

I don't want to have to spend time in hosp prior to birth as I'm already having an ELCS which is booked for 23rd March and will have to spend a night or two 'inside' after that!

If anyone has used any of these baby spinning techniques with success, please let me know!

Not the spinning techniques specifically but I sat on / bounced on / did circles of 8 my bouncy ball every evening, having been forbidden to lounge on the sofa and that certainly helped.

I am afraid I am no help mlm but I watch with interest so bumping. Hope it does work for you and your lo. cereal the circles of 8... its early so excuse my silly q. Do you do that with your hips whilst on ball? I dont quite follow.

When pregnant with my first I went to antenatal yoga and a lady there was given exercises to do to turn her baby from breech to head down it was successful but not sure if it was as late as you are.

My neighbour also turned her baby from breech, mainly with lots of kneeling over an exercise ball and on hands and knees.

Don't know much about it but got to be worth a try to be able to spend less time in hospital.

Good luck!

Hi

Thanks for advice.

Have been jiggling on gym ball since last posting and hanging off sofa - thought it would be hard on my stomach, but actually the worst bit is all of the blood rushing to my head! LO still not moved.

I've been trying hanging upside down, handstands in the swimming pool and all sorts since about 32 weeks in an attempt to get my baby to go head down. I'm now 26 weeks and am booked in for a ECV next Thursday to try and move him, as nothing's worked so far. I'm stll trying though!

Hi,

My baby was breech at 28 weeks and I spent about a week doing a set of yoga cat stretches (think I did about 3 at at time) followed by the 'breech tilt' three times a day (downward facing dog is also good as you are head down with your bum in the air - is a bit more taxing on your legs though). Didn't do the hanging off the couch stuff as was waiting to see if baby turned first. It did seem to work for me but I think it would be difficult now (I'm 37 weeks too and space is very limited!).

Is there any chance they could bring the date of your section forward as 38 weeks is considered term and it wouldn't put you in the position of having to be in hospital just in case you go into labour?

missedith01 · 04/03/2010 12:35

I was the right way up but they found I was breech at 36 weeks a week ago. Due for an ECV today - have been trying the kneeling down exercises and shining a light. (Junior really seems to like the light thing but it hasn't made him turn round!) If the ECV doesn't work I'll be reduced to the frozen peas and/or and elective caesarian at 39 weeks. Nothing is working so far ...

Yes, thislittlesisterlola imagine drawing an figure of eight with your hips while sat on the ball!

I didn't do exercises, but my DD2 was very late to turn and they thought would be breech. I read that babies used to be breech far less often because women did lots of housework on hands and knees and that helped. So I mostly crawled around the house on hands and knees and watched TV kneeling on all fours. I looked absolutely ridiculous but she did turn, so maybe it helped.

My baby was in the position you describe at 40 wks+3days. I asked for an ECV. Overnight he turned head down! I did nothing. Except go to bed and sleep...
