Planning a holiday at 7 months pregnant - am I mad?

Hello

I'm new to mumsnet, and new to the concept of being a mum having recently found out that I'm pregnant for the first time (yay!).

In parallel, husband and I are planning our summer holiday in France, and convenience/cost is pointing to dates which would have us away during my 30th and 31st week of pregnancy.

Having never been pregnant before, I have no idea if this is just crazy talk, or if a holiday at this stage of pregnancy would be a viable option. I know that some airlines may have some restrictions on travel but what I'm really missing is the experience of knowing how hot/tired/grumpy/uncomfortable I might be and whether being away in lovely France would be a welcome distraction or in fact make it worse!

Any advice from lovely ladies who have gone through pregnancy before would be much appreciated!

We went on holiday when I was 36 wks pg with number 2 (only in the UK) but it was really lovely - I just sat in the sun and DH ran around after DS1 - perfect .

Crikey, I'm going to France when I'll be about 33 weeks and I hadn't even thought about my normal insurance not covering me. I'm going by Eurostar and another train and coming back in the car with my parents. I was planning to pack as light as possible (got to change trains across Paris alone), get my parents to take plenty of books in the car, and laze around and read while I'm there.

I've just checked and my insurance covers me up until 32 weeks. I will 'turn' 32 weeks while I'm there. So presumably I'll be covered until that day and not after? Wish I'd thought about this in advance!

Not everyone 'sufers' when pregnant. It isn't an illness, you just happen to be a bit bigger.
Being pregnant didn't stop me doing anything much phyisically that I did before - but then I never got especially large. was still walking miles up to the day DS1 started arriving.
My only reservation about France would be missing out on wine and cheese...
Good luck what ever you decide on.

Thanks peppa.

Yes greenshadow, I'm currently 22 weeks and really enjoying being pg, I think it's suiting me. I know I haven't got to the big and uncomfortable stage yet though!

I am slightly dreading being in France and not being able to enjoy wine, nice cheese, pate, cold beers and espressos at cafes...

I think I win. I will be 37+2 when I go to the south of France in May this year for my birthday, and 38+3 by the time I get back!

Was sleep-starved with limpet newborn clamped to my boob for my 30th birthday last May so am making sure I am not missing out this year! Obviously can't partake in lots of alcohol but am still going to take the break and enjoy my birthday a bit more this year!

Go! You'll be fine.

Hi!
I was wondering why the OP couldn't go by ferry?
We're going in August to France for 2 weeks in a tent/chalet - booked b4 I was PG
Can't really change it now - but my dad worked for the ferries and didn't mention that I wouldn't be able to go! i'll be 35 week when we go

When I was pregnant with ds I would have felt fine to go on holiday. I felt well and active and not too tired. This time round it has been a different kettle of fish. Just walking down the road has been a struggle and I don't think I would have enjoyed being away from home at all.

sunshiney · 19/03/2010 19:10

I think you would be fine to go, especially with your first as you are not quite as prone to the aches and pains that often come with the second.
I am 30 weeks with number two now, and I would buzz off to France tomorrow if I could.

So yes, go! You might have to take it at a slow pace, a lot of walking will probably tire you out but that's it really.
