Evening sickness anyone?

Hi there,

I,m 11wks, and so far I have been fine all day no feelings of sickness. As soon as 4pm strikes I get huge waves of nausea dizziness and occasionally need to be sick. I've heard of morning sickness but this is evening sickness big time!!!. Any other sufferers out there? Does this mean anything?

Yes I had this - spoke to midwife who said it was linked to being tired.

At weekends had after lunch nap (around 1 hour) and didn't get nauseous at all so she was probably right. Sadly not possible on work days . Tried to have a rest early evening.

Can also be due to blood sugar levels dropping later in day so try eating something just before it strikes.

Thanks MumNWLondon Sounds about right. I do seem to get grumpy and tired around that time aswell so probably linked. I Only work part-time so may need to get some afternoon nap time in future!!

I agree had morning, afternoon and evening sickness but around 5 o'clock it got much worse. I'm sure it's because of being tired and it is worth having something to eat mid afternoon to help tide you over.

I never found afternoon napping made me feel worse at weekends when it was possible but worth a try. Good luck!

If it helps I am now 14 weeks and it has all pretty much passed

Yep, evening sickness here too - both times!

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I'm 10+ 2 and have had exactly the same thing for the last couple of weeks - fine all morning, then after lunch (about 3pm) I start feeling really rough - but it goes away when I eat dinner. For me, I don't know whether it's linked to being tired, but if I haven't eaten really well the day before the nausea seems to be worse the next day. Very odd!

Nice to hear it might get better in a few weeks

Hermya321 · 01/03/2010 20:30

I've had all day sickness, but I feel your pain.

I hope you start feeling better.

Hi, auburnlizzy78, yeah my sickness and nausea goes away when I eat dinner too, somebody told me to eat something little every few hours, but I cant eat something little!! once I start eating I cant stop! ha ha Im gonna try having a half hour nap in the afternoon and eat a small sandwich also see if that helps xxxxxxx

I'm with the all-day sickness crowd, but by 5pm it's really bad, just as I have to start cooking dinner for dd blurgh

I try to stave it off by having some toast or something at 3:30 or 4pm, tbh it doesn't seem to help much but worth a try.

I have just had my first week almost without sickness... week 33 !!! But don't panic, it went away at 12 weeks for my first pg so there's always hope.

MumNWLondon · 01/03/2010 21:18

My (evening) sickness went at 12 weeks.

JBroRo · 01/03/2010 21:27

Yes I had evening sickness every evening from about 6 wks to 14 wks.

Bumperlicious · 01/03/2010 21:31

All day for me too but it seems to reach a special peak at around 5-6. God, I hope it goes soon!

MyCatIsABastard · 01/03/2010 21:32

Yup, evening sickness for me too. Sadly the evening started to get earlier and earlier: first it was after 6pm, then 4pm, then 2pm. Luckily it stopped at about 20wks.

MW and lots of people said it was the sign of a healthy pregnancy. I know they were just saying to to make me feel better but it was something to cling to when I was htis colour . .

Sarahlou8 · 01/03/2010 21:40

Yep, just the same as above for me, it gets earlier and earlier. I'm ok while I'm eating but it creeps back within minutes afterwards, and by 9pm I feel so ill I have to go to bed (I'm in bed now)

My midwife last time said she was an evening sickness sufferer and that she came across far more people with it than those sick in the morning!

I'm only 6 weeks so a while to go, but it passed both previous times around 12 weeks.

Luckily I feel absolutely fine in the morning!

Bondwife · 02/03/2010 10:29

I was exactly the same from 8 - 16 weeks.

Was even fine to put hubbys evening meal in the oven if I did it before 4pm (timers are wonderful), just couldn't take it out or be around him eating it (walked the dog instead). Just made sure I ate and drank lots in the morning and lunch time and then it wasn't so bad come the evening.

Bondwife · 02/03/2010 10:30

Oh forgot to say that my sickness reappeared between wks 25 - 29 WONDERFUL!!!!

Tootingbec · 02/03/2010 19:07

Oh I so feel your pain! I am on baby number 2 and I swear the sickness is worse this time round. I have found that if I keep eating things like crackers and plain biscuits then it seems to stem the worse of it plus a little afternoon nap when I can

The worse bit for me is that it peaks at about 5pm just when I am trying to feed DD1 and get her bathed etc - ewwwww, barf etc

I definitely think it is linked to both tiredness and low blood sugar. The only positive thing is that if I can manage to look after my toddler with sickness and feeling knackered then at least I am someway to coping with a toddler and baby when only feeling knackered!
