i'm 5+3 weeks, and not sure if this is a pregnancy thing or not, but as i've never expearienced it before and need help, i thought i'd ask here!

for the past 2 evenings (starting at 7pm ending between 11pm-1am) i've had crippling trapped wind, from both ends drinking something fizzy has really helped me burp, but what can i do about the other end? its so bad i havent been able to move and when i try it just seems to get worse.

my dh joked that i'm learning empathy so when the baby crys because it hasnt been burped properly i'll understand!

is there a remidy i can take whilst pregnant or an old wives tale that really works?

please there has to be something...

Sympathies. It seems it is a pregnancy thing as I have been suffering the same for weeks. Haven't worked out a way of easing it yet but wanted you to know you are not alone!

Ponymum · 28/02/2010 10:05

Do this: lie on your back. Bring your knees slowly up to your chest. Relax. Slowly move your knees from side to side. Relax, breathe, and just try to let it go. Basically, you simply have to learn to fart!

I do sympathise as it can be seriously painful. And if you're anything like me it gets a lot worse later on.

Don't know if it is recommended in pregnancy, but a drop of peppermint oil in hot water is great for easing trapped wind.

addictedtomn · 28/02/2010 10:14

thankyou i will try that ponymum, i dont know why i didnt think of that! its what my dsis does to my dniece when she wass wind and i'll also look in to the pepermint oil, although i cant see why it wouldnt be allowed.

I can't either, but when I my Mum got me some (post partum) the woman in the shop went on as though she was selling her plutonium and kept going on about how strong it was.

These oil people can be weird about their warez.

Cobblers · 28/02/2010 10:20

Exactly what Ponymum said. I suffered from it terribly in the first trimester. Also, try and get your bottom higher than your head (no shoulder stands), I used to go on all fours then put my elbows and head on the floor.
Good luck. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Ha, addictedtomn I just posted about this on the November antenatal thread! Good (?) to know it's not just me - it's sooooo painful!

Are wind-eze ok? I'm also trying fibogel to help make it all a bit more regular...

addictedtomn · 01/03/2010 08:43

thankyou so much, these tips really helped last night, althought dh did think i was a bit odd putting my bum in the air to fart i just kept telling him that its going to get alot worse than this and these next 8 months are going to be full of tmi! lol

I had lots of trapped wind in my first trimester - it has eased up a little in my second. Still have to keep a bottle of perfum close by at my desk!!

I found that simply rubbing my tummy helped move the wind - whether up or down it moved! Also try keeping foods quite neutral so you're not building too much stomach acids. I have natural/plain yogurt with my dinner.

I learned a baby-massage move to relieve trapped wind, which works just as well on yourself - You massage in the shape of "I L(ove) U" - that is, a straight line representing 'I' down the right side of your abdomen, from stomach to groin, quite firmly; then an 'L' shape down the right side and across the bottom; then a 'U' shape. It does help you fart, by moving the air along your bowels I guess.

Good luck!

i had really painful trapped wind and bloating in the 1st trimester.
my stomach was rock hard by bedtime.

it got so much better half way through second trimester.

i drank pepermint tea and took rennie's (cant remember which one, but the pharmacist recommended it)

i think theres something called windeze you can get too.

I just had to comment because this thread had me laughing out loud. I've been having crazy gas. My dh says I am farting like a man...I take CLA, which seems to help with that gaseous bloating.

FionaCW · 02/03/2010 11:41

It's been getting worse and worse for me, so thanks for all the tips on this thread! I've been eating Rennies and holding one of those hot lavender packs on my tummy, which at least relaxes it enough to let the wind do its normal thing... I had better not get morning sickness on top of this!

nunnie · 02/03/2010 12:08

I pish on the top just above my navel and that seems to loosen it slightly. But I am 5 weeks and have this bad, keep thinking the discomfort is somthing to worry about then I let wind and it eases, hope I don't have this for nine months, there's only so long I can blame the dog!

nunnie · 02/03/2010 12:10

pish, is push do apologise!

addictedtomn · 02/03/2010 16:53

nunnie i'm also 5 weeks, and i've been told that it will get better afte 12 weeks...i'm living in hope.
