Hi everyone!

I didn't expect to get pregnant so quickly (I am now 7 weeks, 2 days) and my family arranged a holiday for us all to a villa on august 2nd for two weeks...

I've been quite sure I would be able to go... until today when a friend of mine catagorically stated I wouldn't be able to fly then?

Baby's due October 15th.

Its to turkey and then all I plan to do is rest in an air conditioned villa and float around in a pool...

Can anyone enlighten me please...

thanks!

You need to check with airline on what their rules are, but most will let you fly with a note from the doctor I believe. I have it in mind that 28 weeks in the cut off for flying without...

Congratulations on your pregnancy

Yes, after 28 weeks you will probably need a doctor's letter - check with your airline. If in doubt, get one anyway. I flew to Portugal when I was about 27/28 weeks pregnant (but looked bigger). My GP said I wouldn't need a letter, thankfully I got one from my midwife as I was asked at check-in. You're brave though...Turkey in August is going to be hot, hot, hot!

I know - I'm just asking to sit inside alone for two weeks :p

I'll be 29.5 when I leave (I think?) and 31.5 when I fly back... do you think thats too late to ask for a note or if everything in my pregnancy goes according to the book... I should be okay?

If it helps, my Obs said she would sign me off for long haul (london-HK- 13hrs) until 34 weeks, assuming everything looks normal by then.

I am flying that route first week of July and I'm due Sep 16th (e.g at 29 weeks). Obs totally relaxed about it. Airlines usually just need a note.

BigGLittleG · 28/02/2010 09:49

Anything -- that should be absolutely fine but check with the airline.

I just flew with BA at 33 weeks from Nice to London with a Doctor's note. BA's policy is that it's fine to fly up until 28 weeks but that between 28 and 35 weeks you need a doctor's note. After the end of your 35th week they no longer allow you to fly.

I would travel with a doctor's note regardless of your stage of pregnancy in case you get stopped and asked......if they don't believe you are at the stage you say you are, they won't let you fly!

Best of luck and I would tell your friend that you are going to have a great holiday!

Depending on airline protocol (and your health) the cut off is 34-36 weeks.

I flew numerous airlines long-haul until the end and not once was I asked if I was pregnant

I'd say you'd still be able to fly and your friend is talking bollocks.

FWIW: I am due 25th of Sept and will fly back home on the 24th of August (if my doc okays it and I feel well).

kittyonthebeam · 28/02/2010 10:18

PS: Would get a letter stating you're in rude health just in case.

kittyonthebeam · 28/02/2010 10:19

Darn it.. PPS: That letter has to be written just before you fly, there is a time limit on its validity from the date it's been written. Best to ask your doc and airline that will fly you.

Thanks everyone! I feel much better about it

I've just done 4 flights, including an 11 hour flight between 32 and 34 weeks. Only once was I asked whether I had a note from a doctor/midwife (I did).
