For the last two weeks I've been on constant tenterhooks waiting to feel something but still haven't felt any movement at all.

I'm still pretty thin for 20 weeks - everyone says that they can't tell I'm pregnant, All the books seem to think that I should have felt something by now, and that you feel the baby move even earlier if you're thin to begin with - I was BMI 20 - I have got a bump, but I haven't put any weight on at all, and I've convinced myself that I've got a dead baby floating around inside me.

I've got to wait another 2 1/2 weeks for my next scan and just don't think I'm going to be able to cope feeling like this and being asked how I am for that long.

Have any other skinny first time mums not felt anything this late in the day?

Hi, I was v. thin when I had my first, you couldnt tell I was pregnant at all until 25 weeks ish.
Also I only felt a few little flutters now and then and this would have been easily confused with wind!
If your very worried can you get an apt to see midwife? they may be able to have a listen for you?

hi

Im not very skinny, (just normal) but wanted to reassure you on the movement thing. I am now 24 weeks and not feeling anything. Isaw the midwfe today about it; she lsitened to the heartbeat which was fine, and told me some people just never feel lots of movement, particularly those with an anterior placenta like me. So don't stress, its early days!

Please try not to worry. Everyone is different and puts on different amounts of weight - I am 38 weeks and apart from my bump I haven't put on weight so this is nothing to worry about. Also first pregnancies show later as your stomach muscles are stronger. As for the movement again, as its your first then you might not feel them til later - I didn't start really noticing much until around week 23-24 as with your first you don't know what you are looking for so much. It could be that your baby is kicking away on your internal organs too as opposed to your tummy so you wont feel that.

If you are worried though why don't you book to go and see a doctor/midwife and they can listen to the heartbeat or bring forward your scan.

Good luck with it all.

Thanks guys. It's really hard not to worry, but your words are really reassuring.

I'm visiting a friend who's a midwife at the weekend, so I'll see if she can pull her doppler out for me, although I'm in a place now where I don't want to know if it's bad news, and I've completely convinced myself that it is..

I didn't really get any movement until week 23. I have an anterior placenta so I had nothing much other than about 2 somersault type feelings. In the last couple of weeks (now 24+5) it has become very noticeably stronger. At 20 weeks I went for my 20 week scan and the baby was very very mobile on screen but I couldn't feel anything at all.

I have put on weight (sadly!) but my bump is small and I look much less pregnant than 2 of my friends who are both due later than me. I have put this down to the fact that I am a former gym bunny and have very strong stomach muscles (or used to!) I had visible stomach muscles before I was pregnant (bordering on 6 pack but not quite!!!) so I expected the bump to hold itself in for a while and it has done so far.

Hi, im 18 weeks 3 days and weigh less now that when I did before I got pregnant! I think this is beause I lost weight during the first 12 weeks because I felt so sick. I have started to feel little movements but nothing definate yet, could be confused with gas. I really wouldnt worry. My midwife has checked me over and is happy with me. My friend is 32 weeks and she didnt feel a thing until she was 24 weeks! Its totally normal. All the best xx

Karoleann · 26/02/2010 23:34

I'm (just checked!) BMI of 20 too and I've never felt any movement with both of mine til 25 weeks - I've always measured small for dates too. Apparently if you have strong stomach muscles it makes you measure less and feel a litle less. Incidentally, make sure you do eat lots, I'm not a big eater and was a bit aemamic with my first cos I wasn't eating enough red meat. - lots of diary needed too. best wishes for you pregnancy

mummyof2byapril · 27/02/2010 08:13

Snap with OP!
I think that was the case with me as I was in some denial about being pregnant.
In hindsight frontal placenta probably stopped me feeling kicks so easily and I've just been too sick to put on weight. 34 weeks, still no weight gain, have bump though, think I still only look 6 months pregnant now, despite being just about 8 months.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 27/02/2010 08:29

I wouldnt worry too much about movement at this stage - easier said than done I know!

With DS I felt him at 16 weeks but DD was closer to 24 weeks. DS is a very active child whereas DD is more laid back - convinced there is a link. Maybe you are just having a chilled out baby!

Regarding weight gain that doesnt really matter either as long as you are eating ok? Sometimes mums just dont put on much or subconsciouly eat better and lose weight slightly whilst putting on the weight of the baby. I have had hyperemesis both times and ended up lighter at 40 weeks pregnant and both my DC's were fine. This time I am 16 weeks pregnant and in smaller clothes than before getting pregnant, no bump but im sure baby is fine.

Ring your midwife and ask if you are worried though.
