Milk allergy???

I seem to have suddenly become allergic to milk and all products containing milk (I had 4 mini cheddars the other day and was in agony and vomiting for 3 days!!)
This has only happened since I've been pregnant. Is this common? Has it happened to anyone else?
I had low bone density in my last pregnancy and was told to breastfeed to help replenish my calcium stores (?) I'm concerned this will be a problem again, especially as I now can't eat yoghurt/cheese...etc...
Any advice?

Very easy to get calcium from sources other than cows' milk. Leafy green veg, sardines (with bones) to name a couple. Fortified soya milk/ Oat milk and dairy free yoghurts, cheeses, spreads... If you are really worried, speak to your GP about a referral to a dietician. It is also possible to get calcium suppliments on prescription whilst breastfeeding, I did.

We seem to be obsessed in this country with the need for cows'milk in our own, and our children's diets, which seems disproportional to it's actual benefit in my opinion. Plenty of cultures don't to few ill effects!

how strange...never heard of becoming alergic to milk products while preggers...however I too have low bone density, and wanted to comment on you being told 'to breastfeed to help replenish your calcium stores'.....is this a typo? as i think it totally incorrect. If you breastfeed, the baby takes all the nutrients it needs from you, calcium and all, leaving you with less.
Those with low bone density obviously need to preserve our calcium stors as much as possible.
For this pregnancy I have taken the pre-natal vit tabs throughout, then after the birth (any day now - yeah!) I will stop taking the expensive pre-natal vits but will start taking bog standard calcium/vit D tabs....which I will probably end up taking for a long long time.
Your symptoms sound very extreme....unsure 4 mini cheddars would do that?....does this happen every time you ingest a product with milk in it. Perhaps you have just caught a horrible short term sickness bug?

You can develop allergy at any point in life, and there are studies that suggest that the immune system can be altered during pregnancy, making it possible that allergies might appear at this time. I also believe that there is evidence that Breast feeding protects against osteoporosis in later life because, whilst calcium stores are in fact depleated whilst feeding, when you stop, your body is more efficient in absorbing it in higher levels. Something to do with estrogen supression or something...

yeah, I'm not sure why breast feeding would help low bone density at all, but the consultant who did my MRI's at the time said it was really important. It doesn't make sense to me that it would improve my calcium levels, but I'm not a dr, so I just trust the professionals.

I know green leafy veg has calcium in, but I read somewhere that I'd have to eat about 3 tons of it to get the same amount as an average yoghurt!

I guess that is what I'm really asking though. Anyone know of any foods that are rich in calcium but non-dairy?

I will try getting some fortified alternatives. That's a good idea. I just hadn't thought of it

Yes, the reaction is pretty severe and getting worse. At the beginning of the pregnancy it was just cramping, but then it got steadily worse. I shouldn't have eaten the cheddars really, but I didn't think they would have real cheese in them!

I also have hyperemisis, so maybe that is not helping with the reaction.

breastfeeding gives women greater protection against atheritis, so it's obviously doing something good for your bones, how? I don't know.
I haven't touched much dairy since my son's pregnancy, made me very sick too, but I have soya milk and yogarts now anyway
