Hi everyone,

Just looking for advice or similar experiences really....

I will be 36 weeks tomorrow. At 31 weeks I was sent for a scan due to reduced movement. At the scan the sonographer said that baby's tummy was measuring the size of a 35 week old baby. I was then sent for a Gestational Diabetes test the next week which came back negative. I was booked in for a follow up scan which was today. Baby is still measuring big (38 weeks). The consultant told us to come back for another scan in a fortnight to assess the situation.

I am concerned as my BMI is only 27 (was 22 when I first became pregnant) and I have gained 14 kg which seems alot but it is ALL belly. Midwife did not seem concerned at all at my last check up (34 weeks) as my bump was measuring 36 cm and I have consistently measured 2 cm ahead ever since they started measuring my belly.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation as this? I know that I am potentially facing a C-section and to be honest I'm quite nervous about that.

Any reasurrance would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi dana4nyc, try not to worry too much. If your test for gestational diabetes was clear and it is "just" a big baby rather than a particular medical reason for causing the baby to be big there is not reason why you would need a c-section. Try not to let them bully you into it, just trust that if your body can make a baby that size, then you will be able to deliver it, particulalry if you remain active during delivery.

Both of my pregnancies measured big by 5 weeks!! My first ds was 9lb15 following a 13.5 hour labour and my second was 10lb7 born after just 2.5hours labour. Measuring 2 cms bigger is not all that much and it is always hard to judge how big a bigger baby is going to be as scans are better at estimating the size of smaller baby.

Good luck, and trust that your body can deliver your beautiful baby.

I am cooking a whopper apparently. No reason other than "excellent uterine conditions" apparently (well that is what my lovely midwife said).

He is on track to be in the upper end of 9lbs+

Not a reason in itself for a c-section.

Baring GD (and other actual conditions) a big baby is a healthy baby, you should be patting yourself on the back rather than worrying!
