A serious post, honest! This is the second time I have had this pain, I am now 18 wks pg. It is across my bump and up to my shoulder blade and I know I ate lunch too quickly while gabbing to a colleague...
But it is agony! And I need to shift it soon or I will cry - any tips? Nothing gross please

Peppermint tea. Either the tea bags or fresh mint leaves in boiling water.

I suffer with incredibly painful IBS and although pills do work (Not sure if you could take them whilst pregnant anyway) peppermint tea works almost instantly.

Hope that helps.

Ah yes, thank you - off to boil the kettle

How about loads of Rennes?

try reducing the amount of sugar in your diet. Ive suffered with loads of painful wind this PG and i think its due to all the sugar i've consumed...! also try to reduce the amount of wheat, and eat slowly!

And try going for a walk. shifts it.
and suck a peppermint. there's a reason granny always had them in her handbag

I suffer with trapped wind quite often, worse when PG.#

I find the best thing for it is lying down on the floor really straight no pillow or anything and it usually comes up in a burp. If its the lower end, peppermint tea is fab!

RemyMartin · 23/02/2010 10:27

It is gross, but I make myself burp, which brings a bit up, then eventually it seems to clear the way for a big real burp to come up which I appreciate may not be what you want at work.
You could also try marching on the spot, bringing your knees up as high as you can (can be done in toilet cubicle to save embarrasment)
Even drinking hot water with nothing in it helps, try and drink it as hot as you can stand though in big gulps.
I have quite a lot of experience of this - can you tell - but using these methods, I now know I can get rid of it pretty quickly.

Thanks for all the advice (he he skihorse!) - peppermint tea worked a treat. No explosions just a nice calming down feeling....!
Interesting about sugar, I am eating my body weight in chocolate every day

Btw, I find the only time I get it is when I've not done any physical activity, so try to at least go for a walk round the block every day.

Maitri · 23/02/2010 14:35

Best thing I've found (I'm 10 weeks and having the same problem as you) is to get down on the floor on all fours and then put my head on the floor so that my bum is up in the air. Gently move your hips from side to side and the trapped wind will, um, make a quick appearance! Works EVERY time for me. Hope it works!
