Crunchy Nut Cornflakes

Has anyone eaten at least one bowl of these a day throughout their entire pregnancy and only realised in the 3rd trimester that the nuts in them are not almonds but peanuts?

Did the baby turn out to have any allergies?

I'm not allergic to anything but my DH is allergic to penicillin and has eczma - I've been avoiding everything with peanuts in only to find out that I've actually been eating peanuts every day. I am so angry with myself for being so unbelievably stupid.

Can anyone offer any reassurance?

I have an allergic child and advice from consultant is same as Nellymoo - don't avoid anything - in fact they even think that avoiding certain foods may be more likely to cause allergies than prevent them.
I did avoid peanuts in my first pregnancy as that was the advice at the time. DS not allergic to peanuts but is to dairy / eggs / fish. I agree with others that it is a bit random / genetics.

I loved kellogs crunchy nut sooo much in early pregnancy, ... untill I found 2 lumps of ply wood in my bowl :-|
Yes straight out of the box.
Unsure how chunks of wood got in, they were all sugar glazed too.
I haven't touched them since because I don't really trust however/where ever they're made..

as for allergies, that's down to people not breastfeeding and trying to wean babies onto food too early isn't it?

MumNWLondon · 23/02/2010 16:20

mummyof2byapril - my SIL bf until 18 months and didn't introduce solids (other than some organic veggies from 6 months) until 9 months.

He has serious peanut allergy, and also allergic to eggs & sesame.

Ply wood??? That's frightening. I hope you sent them off to Kellogs to complain? Although they'd probably just give you crunch nut cornflake vouchers as compensation which I guess would be a bit rubbish.

It's a shame there isn't more information about the prevention of allergies - especially since allergies to all sorts seem to be so common these days. It does seem like common sense to have a little bit of everything.

Maybe research into allergy prevention doesn't get so much funding because sales of epipens would plummet...

mummyof2byapril stating "as for allergies, that's down to people not breastfeeding and trying to wean babies onto food too early isn't it? "

erh the answer to that one is NO! where did you find this statement from? I breast fed my child, didn't wean until 6 months - he has a serious peanut allergy.

nellymoo · 23/02/2010 22:29

mummyof2byapril - no. My DD was Born with allergies.
