Hi all!

I'm 25 weeks and have been travelling like crazy all pregnancy. I'm interested to hear from any of you about what you've been up to (I work as a travel writer and would love to compare experiences). Here's some of mine to kick it all off:

  1. The Denial Trip
I went down the Nile at 3 months' pregnant on my own to get my head together about being up the stick. Not a good idea - was so sick I could barely eat anything and I passed out at nearly every major ancient Egyptian ruin there is. I even packed a suitcase of crisps and kit kats in case this happened, but it wasn't enough...
  1. The New Year's Eve trip
I took my bf to Glasgow for New Year's Eve. Great, except I couldn't drink which is obviously a large component of it all, and was so tired I was in bed by 10pm. But it was a proper nice chance to get away with the man.
  1. The Proper Babymoon
We're off to Marrakesh to stay in a luxe riad and enjoy the sunshine in 2 weeks. God, I can't wait! I will be careful what I eat of course, and won't be riding any camels. Hoping shopping for lovely pottery and homewares will help with my feverish nesting instinct which is taking over right now...

Still on the list - we're off to Iceland in March to see the northern lights (hopefully) and I really want a pregnancy treatment at the Blue Lagoon if there's time. I hear the Bath Spa's pregnancy treatments are nice too...

Over to you...been anywhere good lately?

I work in aviation and last time I was pregnant I actually 2 trips to Uganda and back before I found out. We had a medical emergency on the second trip and I couldn't figure out why I felt so emotional about it all, but all was revealed with a POAS next day!

Then, at 10 weeks, we had a New Year Party organised in a ski resort in our apartment, and I was not the world's best hostest, it has to be said. No alcohol for me, no cheese (it's virtually all unpasteurised out there,) no pate, not a lot really. And I was knackered. And got a really bad stiff neck from a work related problem which I'd never noticed before but became apparent when all my ligaments started to loosen up. I was a barrel of laughs!

At 16 weeks my sister got married in the Ice Hotel's chapel in Lapland. I felt fantastic! We snow-mobiled, husky-mushed, the lot. All except the drinking vodka in ice glasses bit. Boo-hoo. I'll have to go back!

At 28 weeks I went to pony camp for grown ups. Not exactly a trip abroad, but I spent the week in a tent and it was a bit of an adventure. I think the horse had a better holiday than I did.

This time I went skiing at 6 weeks to the Alps and am planning 2 camping trips. When you work in the industry the idea of flying everywhere soon loses it's appeal!

Hi

I'd love to have a week away somewhere hot hot hot but have been reluctant to book as the only places I can think of that are hot at the moment do not have great healthcare and its my first so I'm really paranoid in case something happens - any thoughts of where I could go?

Thanks for any advice.

Hey Big Bad,

if you're looking for somewhere that's hot now and want somewhere with good healthcare but not too challenging, culture-wise, here's some thoughts:

Europe (well, OK, not so hot but southern europe is better than here) - with your EHIC card you get free reciprocal healthcare thanks to the NHS.

Australia & NZ - hot right now if you can afford it. You also get reciprocal healthcare.

Southern USA (Florida etc) - Again, English-speaking so it's good for you if you're worried about that; just make sure you have comprehensive health insurance otherwise it can cost a bomb.

You've also got the Caribbean, the Canary Isles (just off the coast of Morocco so you're looking at 20+ degrees right now, with good healthcare), Singapore and Hong Kong.

Check with your doc about vaccinations; you can fly up to about 28 weeks in pregnancy with a note from your GP - go get some sun!

I'm due in September and we're planning on going to Seville for a week at the end of March, Jersey (for my Gran's birthday - she lives there) for a long weekend in May, and probably a week or so driving around France and possibly to Switzerland/Italy if we make it that far in early July. Alternatively, might go to Croatia in July, but my husband fancies a driving holiday before we have to get a new car!

Can't wait

Hiya - I am 27week and we have just come back from 3 week in Australia - it was heaven, sea, sand and sun. I loved it, we know it will be our last trip for a long while.

Nymphadora · 23/02/2010 18:43

We are going to NYC with the kids at easter.
We wanted to go back and wouldn't go with a baby so by the time we were prepared to go again dd1 probably will be too old to holiday 'with parents' so its now or never!

i've been all over the place too and am thoroughly enjoying myself!

We spent three weeks travelling across Thailand over Christmas and New Year. This was supposed to be our last exotic trip before seriously ttc but the baby beat us to it - consequently had to cut out the diving and the full moon party but had an amazing three weeks working our way down one side of the coast and back up the other.

I've subsequently been quite busy with work and have had lots of short European trips to Germany and Switerland as well as a lovely break to Amsterdam to visit friends for my birthday.

Last on the list is a trip to New York and San Diego over Easter. I'll be 30 weeks on the way back so probably putting my passport away for a while after that, but hoping to have an amazing last trip as just a twosome. Glad to hear others are also enjoying being out and about and pleased to be able to tell my mother I'm not the only one!

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 24/02/2010 16:49

Actually tiredtiredtired you can fly up to 36 weeks on most airlines if you have a single uncomplicated pregnancy and a(recent)note from your doctor or midwife.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 24/02/2010 17:37

32 weeks with a multiple pregnancy. And you don't actually need a doctors note on most airlines until 28 weeks (but check with the specific airline!).

Hope that helps. Happy traveling!
